My Personal Review for FlagBag Golf Co

I was not compensated for this review.  I'll keep my disclaimer simple.  I don't need to be paid for reviews.  More so, you can't pay me for golf reviews simply because my time is really expensive.  I make posts like these from time to time simply because I like golf and maybe one or two of you might enjoy a review of a product I enjoy.  That's it.

 

As most of you know, the amateur participation at the Pebble Beach tournament this year was cancelled.  What most of you do not know is that a long time before FlagBag Golf Co https://flagbaggolfco.com was commissioned to make 170 bags for the participants.  You can see the bags here:

This review though is my personal experience.  Last year surfing the internet I came across MacDonald golf bags which led me to Flag Bag.  I thought what a cool concept - pin flags and leather to make a unique Sunday bag.  So I jumped on the idea "early" because I wanted a bag for myself and a good friend in time for Christmas.

 

The process was quite simple.  Contact Josh/Matt, exchange some emails about ideas, then I had to gather the flags and send them off.  My idea was a Scotland theme from my last trip, so I gathered flags from the best courses I enjoyed many times around Ayr.  After sending the flags off, them it was a long wait to discuss designs.  I had no idea these guys were knee deep in 170 bag order from Pebble.  For a small company that's a huge order pretty much consuming all resources.  So getting my order through the process was understandably slower than usual and frankly, a miracle it all worked out.

 

The funny part was, I got sent the mockups and because I've never stitched a bag together, I had no idea what I was looking at.  The mockups are really better understood by the people who are actually making the bags.  But Josh/Matt got me through it and really it was about selecting leather colors and trim.  Time went on, I trusted they would get it done for Xmas, but December rolled around and then I got nervous.  But they came through!  On Xmas Eve, and the bags were more than worth the wait.  These are awesome!

 

First, here is the one I commissioned for a friend:

 

 

 

It has three flags: Prestwick, Western Gailes, and Turnberry (the old logo, not the Trump garbage), trim in Navy/Yellow leather.  A simple, classy design, not too busy, and colors match up great.

 

And here is what I ended up with for myself:

 

 

 

 

 

Same three flags as the other bag plus Royal Troon.  Since this bag uses four flags, they are oriented horizontal.

 

The craftsmanship and quality of these bags are superb.  And quite durable.  A few little touches make the bag really stand out: the strong zipper, suede trim outside the pocket, and the most comfortable single strap you will ever experience secured by a unique snap.  

 

I didn't care it is winter and often wet.  As long as it's not raining, this is my go-to bag.  Sure, it would look fantastic on the wall, but it's much better in use.  I'm nearly two months and 15 rounds into this bag and it is as good as new.  

 

I'm saving the pic of the inside of the pocket as it has a special touch that only those who buy one get to see 😉. Surprisingly, the pocket is spacious.  I can get balls, tees, range finder, car keys, and a bottle of water in no problem, and I can get a light pullover rolled up inside as well.  Yes, the bag is a little stuffed with 14 clubs, but it works, I carry 14 and really have no issue getting clubs in/out.

 

If you're looking for truly a unique bag, the most special, this is it.  One of my best golf purchases of all time. 

 

The hardest decision you will have to make... Which 3 or 4 flags to use?!?!  I may have to get another bag in the future!
