USGA submission

Hi all,

 

I want to submit to the USGA that there should not be bifurcation, but a limitation on the compression of a ball. Granted, this will affect me, but it seems like of all the nonsense right now, there only needs to be one change:

 

Require all matches be played with a ball of 65 Compression or less, starting 01 Jan 2023.

 

This doesn't necessarily reduce distance, but it will slant the risk/reward of distance more fairly without punishing the mid-am. I am confident that by doing this, the effect will be what everyone is seeking, without significant other changes.

 

Does anyone know how to formally ask?

Hello USGA,

I want to add a suggestion that does not seem to be getting discussion. I would propose that you consider a maximum compression level for the ball. It would be my estimate that something near a 65 compression ball would have no effect on amateur players, but would add more risk to the risk-reward equation to longer hitters.

Your other options, particularly with a maximum of 46” club length is reasonable, but might not be necessary with a change to the compression maximum.

No one wants to go back to balata, but a softer ball would help the game in areas that you’re seeking to fix, without hurting areas you’re not needing to fix.
