Ping G10 vs G5 Vs G2

For those that have the G10, what noticeable changes do you see from the g5 and g10. I had a g2 for a couple years and really liked it, and I am considering the G10 but it looks so similar to my G2 I wondered if there is really any difference or just new packaging and colors?

I cannot speak to the G5 but I made the change from the G2 (first driver I've really had a lot of confidence in-replaced a Steelhead plus) to a G10. I love the G10-it hits straighter than I've ever been able to hit the G2 and a bit farther-I think the added distance may be due to a bit higher confidence resulting in a fuller backswing and faster acceleration.

I just changed from a G5 to a G10. It is hard for me to make an apples to apples comparison because of the way each was set up. The G5 was a 10.5* with a Prolaunch Blue cut down to 44.75". It was not reweighted so it ended up being a bit lite. The G10 is a 12*, NVS 65 cut to 44.5" and weighted to D2. The varibles between the two make it hard to compare. But, I can say the G10 is more forgiving, lower spin (even with the NVS), and just as long (for me) as the G5 with its setup. I've got a fairly low SS and a compact swing. This shaft/head/loft combo works great for me. It is all in how you trick it out. I like it.

Thanks for the replys. I liked my G2 and am I deciding between the hibore XLS and G10. It seems nearly everyone that has a G10 loves it, but I am just interested if it is really much different than my old G2, or just new colors.

Same here. Currently own the G2. I am waiting to hit the XLS. But my numbers on the launch monitor with the G10 looked very good to me. I need to go re-test actually because I think those numbers were a little too good.

I just wanted to hear some opinons from those who have the g10 becasue it seems nearly everyone professes their undying love for the driver, but I wonder if it is just a repackaged G5 or G2.

I have owned both the G2 and G5 and I have replaced them with the G10. By far the nicest driver I have hit. It is more forgiving and longer then the others. I love it. Just make sure you get a shaft that fits your swing.

With the increased ball speeds shown in Golf Digest, I think that is proof enough that it is not a re-packaged G2 or G5. New technology and an overall great club in my opinion. The first time I hit this club, I was shocked at how high it launched and how it just stayed in the air forever. At first I really thought it was spinning a ton to get that kind of heighth and then I hit it into a stiff wind and it bored right through despite the high launch. I have a Diamana Blueboard 83x in mine and could possibly go with a Whiteboard or something a little lower launching to get some more distance, but with the Blueboard this club is plenty long and a fairway finder. Very straight and plenty long.

The G10 is bigger than the G5 and G2. They are all suppose to be 460 cc, but PING was inadvertantly measuring the hosel in this measurement. When informed by the USGA that the hosel was not included in their measurements, Ping adapted and moved the extra 10 cc into the head. If you set the G10 down next to a G5 or G2 it is easy to pick up the visual differences. The G10 I believe has a lower and deeper center of gravity and is longer face to back.

It is a different animal, not just a G2 with a new paint job.

Thats good to hear that it is more than just a repackaged g2 or g5. I've asked the certified Ping fitter at my local Edwin Watts and he of couse said it was the best thing since sliced bread but when I asked him why he gave me the exact same answer about variable face thickness and weight pads that he did about the G5.

I had the g10 9 with S prolaunch red and hit them side by side with a g2 8.5 with a prolaunch blue S same length. I hit the g2 farther and better. My trajectory is perfect with the prolaunch blue. Perhaps the red was too stiff for me. I have tried other drivers too and some how I hit the ball better with this combo... even on the launch monitors. I try to hit some of the new clubs (ft-5, g10 and others) and I generate more ball speed and almost ideal launch conditions. I eventually will replace it with a g10 but need to find the a good shaft for it.

What I will say for sure is that the g10 3 wood (stock shaft) is a million times better than the g5 with the prolaunch blue. I kept the the g10 3 wood.
