shaft fitting advice

Hi Gang.

Long time listener...first time caller.

Have a chance to pick up a set of irons I've been looking for, but they're shafted with a set I have no experience with.

They're the T100s after an exhaustive search.
Been playing AP2's with PX 5.5 for a few years. I'm a 155 7 iron guy with a short backswing and VERY fast transition.
Think John Rahm with half the club head speed.
New irons are the AMT white S300. None around I can demo so curious how they should play in comparison.
Advice is appreciated as I plan to pick them up on Saturday.

the S300s should play slightly stiffer than the PX 5.5, esp. at the tip; the AMT Whites should also be a touch heavier throughout. I wouldn't be surprised if you lose a little spin and launch, so it may all even out in the end with a slightly different ball flight.

Only way to know for sure is to hit them.

You’re more than likely not going to like the AMT, or any Dynamic Gold for that matter. PX is an excellent shaft for aggressive transitions, Dynamic Gold is more for a moderate transition (more flex in the handle as opposed to PX).

Thats all correct, but let me be the devils advocate here....
WEIGHT would be a major factor here, and only the #3 and #4 will have a weight "similar" to PX 5.5, the others will be above, and that might IMPROVE is "very fast" transition when he both get more weight to handle, and a little more feedback from bending than PX offers, so this MIGHT be a better shaft set for him than what he has now.....but like always, only a test will be able to tell.

Thanks gentlemen.  I did go to a heavier driver shaft which has helped me slow things down a bit and eliminate some of the big misses.  Might work for this too.
If not I guess I’ll have no trouble finding them a new home.

Please report back about what you did and how that turned out.

First round under my belt.  Have to say I’m a  huge convert.  Was probably about half a club longer due to the lower trajectory snd my slight fade was now dead straight.
Definitely found the long irons easy to hit with the lighter weight and heavier short irons let me feel the club head more on short irons.
No reservations at all.
Appreciate all the advice.

So the extra weight was beneficial for you?, what about shaft profile/feel of flex?

It wasn’t a huge difference in long and mid irons but definitely felt it in the short irons.
Trajectory all around was a bit lower but they felt great. Probably due to my fast John Rahm tempo it felt like I could control it better. My normal slight fade was a dead straight ball flight today without trying to work it either way.
Was also able to hook a 5 iron out of tree trouble today much easier than I’ve been able to in the past.

Bring a roll of lead tape, and try to add about 2 grams to each head, it might improve your navigation and feel of the club, and since you seems to benefit from the progressive shaft weight, a little head weight tune up should be done to see if "the little extra" comes out. The closer we get to whats right for us, the more sensitive we get to changes, so if you are close to something really good, 2 grams extra head weight will matter. Im not saying it will be better, but you should try that out. More head weight also bring more of the shafts profile and flex to live, who can help you improve your timing from "improved" shaft feel during load and release. (help to use more timing and swing tech, instead of to much power and tempo during transition of the club.)

PS - About shaft weight.
Project X models is delivered 0.5" longer than Dynamic Gold, so when we compare them, we should consider PX 5.5 to be 113.5 grams, not 115 grams as official specs say. With that in mind, you can now compare the shaft weight in your new set. Thats means AMT has more shaft wgt from the #4 iron and up as S300 strait in, compared to PX 5.5.

Im a BIG fan of the AMT idea, and im glad to hear that it worked out like i hoped for it could, due to your swing, and how progressive shaft weight like the AMT can improve that.

AMT is all about "weight", and since it moves more than other models when we soft or hard step them, we get "tons of weight options" with this models since not all of us fits to play a 130 grams #9 and PW, but we can still take advantage of a progressive shaft wgt system for improved tempo control.

Thanks!  That’s great advice. Going to spend the rest of the season tinkering and then the off season getting things dialled in.  Next slot to fill is the 3 wood in my bag.
The struggle is real there.
Really appreciate all the advice. Went in with an open mind and was really surprised how much it helped control my tempo and ball flight. Suspected it would be the case as a 70g driver shaft helped me off the tee.

This is my suggestion for shaft wgt progression for the whole bag.
