Indoor sim setup with low ceiling.

So I only have an 8.5 ft ceiling, plenty of length and depth. We are a short family, I’m 5’7, wife 5’5 and my 7yr old son will be playing on it a alot. Is it possible to have a setup at this ceiling height? I can swing driver comfortably now, but not sure how much the mat will lift the floor. Any thoughts or experience with ceiling heights below 9ft?

I’m 5’5” and my ceiling is about 8’2”. I can swing everything. My mat  is a couple of inches thick and I’ve never hit the ceiling with my driver. I imagine it depends a lot on your swing type. I used an old driver to see what happened before I used my gamer.

did you get a custom size bay setup or does a standard size from  like a Carl’s place or rain or shine fit?

No nothing custom. I pieced it together. I got a net at dicks and found the mat on eBay. I use an old TV and laptop. The space I have is pretty tight. The right side of the net is right up against the wall. From the back wall to the net is about 14 ft. I also have some exercise equipment to the left of my sim space and the water heater and furnace just past that. So pretty tight. I originally was going to get a skytrack. Once I set up the net and mat I kind of realized using real balls could possibly do some real damage so I decided foam balls were the safer choice. The reviews I read for using a skytrack with foam balls were not very positive. I decided to get an optishot instead of spending $2000 and not liking the results. I will say this the club tracking the optishot has been helpful. I Was able to lower my handicap from 18 to 13.5 and broke 80 for the first time after several close calls earlier in the summer. I figure at some point skytrack or a similar device will work better with foam balls and I can upgrade. I’m pretty satisfied with my setup until that time comes.

Take a cheap driver and swing. I am 5'7" but when I swing my driver, it touches the ceiling at 8.5 feet. My set up is 9.5 feet.

I have 9 foot ceilings and I am very comfortable taking an unrestricted swing with anything up to my 2 hybrid.   I swing my 3 wood in there but I don't play with it.... With that club I focus on path and face and hit only 3/4 shots.  I am 6 feet tall and hit of a CC mat.

I am in a similar situation during the winter time. My basement is only 80 inches tall and while it makes a great movie room it does not make a good simulator room. But I can use foam balls with the Garmin R10 to hit chip shots and short wedge shots.

 

I can also set my simulator outside the non winter months in New England and that does work really well.

 

I need to replace my roof on my dettached garage and I will also be raising the wall height from 7 feet to 10 feet. Then I have a nice sim room
