Poor iron shaft fit?

He guys, looking for some opinions and i'll try and keep it short. 

 

Went for a fitting with PXG in January and ended up ordering Gen 3P with Elevate Tour Stiff shafts. I tried 3-4 shafts and these seemed to work best for me but my swing was also not great as we were in mid winter and I hadn't swung a club in 8 weeks. I've always just bought clubs and made it work for my swing so thought this was better than that. 

 

Previous irons were JPX 919 F G-8 and HM 5-7 with C-taper lite stiff. Have been at the range about 4 times now and played 9 holes 1x and it seems I have lost significant distance with the PXGs. I took my old 9 iron to the range with my SC200+ launch monitor and it confirmed what I have been seeing. An example of what i was getting with 9 iron comparison: 

 

JPX 919F: 

137 distance

80 mph swing speed

100 mph ball speed

 

PXG Gen 3P:

119 distance

79 MPH swing speed

88 MPH ball speed

 

I dont remember the smash factor but was lower on the PXG so i'm guessing that part of it but this was what i was seeing most of the time. 8 iron used to be 150-155 and now its 135 at best. This is what i found on the course as well. Couldn't believe how short everything was coming up. It does seem the elevate launch HIGH for me. Like 2x higher than far. They do feel heavy as well. I wondering if the elevate tour at 117g is too much for me vs my c-taper lite at 110g or it's just spinning too much? PXG are 1 deg stronger as well so should be longer by a bit. 

 

Your thoughts are appreciated. My wife thinks it's really funny I bough new clubs that seem worse for me.

The shaft you got is a light shaft weight wise.

Could be a swing issue that's being exacerbated by the shaft. 1.11 smash factor is low for an 8 iron. That's a mishit and not center contact. Don't think an additional 7 grams in weight would make that big of a difference however.

The numbers indicate poor contact more than anything. But, hard to tell without seeing all the data.

Is there a difference in swingweight? At D2 in the irons I’m pretty good. Any heavier, I stink and I hit it short.

for 79/80mph swing speed. you thing a 117g stiff shaft is light?

 

I swing 80/85 and use a KBS max 85g shaft designed for my swing speed. 

 

 

if i was swinging badly on the day and the best PXG could offer got me way shorter that current gamer I would have just left empty handed.

I struggle with changes to my body.  Some months I’m fatter, or stronger, with varying degrees of flexibility.  I’m not athletic or skilled enough to maintain consistency through those changes.  I could totally imagine myself fit for something which was right at the time, but no longer works 2 months later.

It was definitely a bad fitting. I did compare to my gamer that day and everything was about the same. My swing with my gamers was bad that day too. Probably should have some back another day but I wanted a new toy ASAP. 
 

Fitting are tough for the inconsistent strike because I usually take some time to adjust to any club. Was hoping one I figured it out it would work out okay. Just two months before I had a range session directly after a lesson where I was hitting some 7 irons at like 92 mph swings and carrying like 185. 
 

We just got snow here so I’m going to rent a simulator this weekend and see if I can figure it out since my 30 day period ends next week. I do think I want a lighter shaft but I really won’t know till I’m outside in the summer and have played for a month or two.
