Inside takeaway = over-the-top, experiencing the reverse

Interesting thread. I've struggled with a slice my whole life. I am literally at the end of the line and rdy to quit. I am on vacation and took a random lesson from the pro here. I've always focused on taking the club back either straight back or a little bit outside. I've always been told/read to do this.

The first thing the pro told me was that I need to take the club back more inside. I believe he said it was because by taking it inside it puts my club where it needs to be to start the inside out swing (which makes sense but I've always heard the opposite)

I tried this two days in a row. First day the inside takeaway worked about the same as my old swing for straight/slice drives. Second day was 0 Percent success.

It's very hard for me to believe this pro is right.

I'll read through this thread.

There's going to be a happy medium of "depth" where the club and your hands should go. No one but you and the pro knows just how outside you were taking it before you got this advice, but it stands to reason that it was enough that you were forced to swing very down-the-line at best -- and that can quickly become across the line.

Taking the club "more inside" doesn't [have to] mean rolling your wrists, fanning the club open, and sucking the club in behind you low and early. Inside and low is typically bad, usually leading to a rerouting over and out on the downswing. But if the club never gets behind you enough, then yeah, how can you swing from the inside if the club isn't ever inside to begin with?

Matt Wolff famously gets the club vertical and across the line at the top, but he gets his hands deep enough, and reroutes the club like crazy right back on plane. Unless you've got a similar rerouting loop move at the top of your swing, then the pro likely thought you were making things a lot harder on yourself by taking the club outside to start. (Also, if you don't make a full turn, you're not going to be able to make a good rerouting move if your hands are still out toward the target line.)

I took a video of my swing last night. I am not sure exactly but I think he was talking about my clubhead being too far out. The second pic is where I feel he wants my club head to be. This lightbulb went off with like one ball left to hit so I couldn't test my theory. Screenshot_20230807-1211472.png.ee628d919eda49565d83772e0c7a3f2a.pngScreenshot_20230808-090753.png.c329985f52c486b30d6cf7594105e429.png

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
