Thicker grips and their affects

Reviving the grip thread... I just moved from reg size golf prides to the winn dritac mid size in my woods and I really like them. I was leaving the face open a bit at first but just strengthened my grip a bit and completely fixed that. they are way more comfortable and it doesnt feel like the shaft is wiggling in my hands like they used too. I feel like I can really swing hard at the ball and my dispersion is still pretty good. I dont have particularly big hands, glove size is med-large or large usually, but I'll definitely be getting mid size grips in my irons too.

 

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I have responded something similar in a different thread but I battle arthritis and lately have had a bout of extensor tendinitis in the left hand.  I went to midsize grips after a prolonged RICE period and I swear it was worse than before.  Went back to standard size grips and saw significant improvement.  All that to say I think it just depends on the individual…I don’t believe any hard and fast rules apply.  Fortunately in the age of Amazon it’s super cheap to try different size grips without dropping hundreds of $

I suffer from arthritis in both thumbs, have had two surgeries and nothing has helped. Have learned to deal with it.  And this summer playing almost every day is becoming more and more noticeable, but that's a nice problem to have in a way, having the summer off for the first time ever and getting a Daily Pass at a terrific course 5 miles from the house. (Foxford Hills, northwest Chicago area out past O'Hare.)

 

I have smaller size hands, wear a S/M Cadet Footjoy glove. I am a big fan of Golf Pride Tour Wraps, and I regrip my own clubs, and yes using air makes it easy to swap back if I don't like results.  I have tried all sizes of grips past few years to find if anything will help.  I tried Jumbo last year, that didn't last long and went back  Mid-size. Again with the pain  continuing, understanding playing so much is part of the equation, just this week received a new supply of undersized grips that I've been wanting to try.  So far so good,  I feel I have more control and feel of club face with smaller grips, but too early to really tell.  But it was one of my better rounds yesterday, here's hoping it does help. 

 

Like I tell my wife when I head out to play .... gotta admire the courage being displayed here playing with pain.  (as she rolls her eyes!)

Not really anything to do with arthritis or joint issues. But my initial assessment with Jumbomax Ultralight Medium is: 

 

1. Right hand gets a little more involved in putting pressure on the handle to square the club. 

2. Right hand gets a bit more underneath the grip which can tuck the trail elbow under in backswing. 
3. Face is not likely to snap shut. I can bow the left wrist through impact without fearing a hook. 
4. Can swing more aggressively without fearing a big miss.
