Adding a couple days to my trip in October. What are the thoughts of all my Irish friends on the course at Castle Dargan?

I have this on the list for an afternoon 18 if we aren't wiped after our round at County Sligo and the weather is good. If we go, I'll definitely let you know. Looks like a nice course for a 25e twilight round. I was going to add it for our jetlag round, but we opted for Ballinrobe GC since its close to Cong. The guys want to have some 'Quiet Man' nostaglia at Pat Cohan's Bar after we play.

We are staying in Coolaney so we are thinking of making it our first round off the plane. Instead of playing near Dublin then driving 2+ hours, we may just make the drive off the flight and play. Then it’s only a 15 min drive to our house. Hard to find any current reviews, but from the video and pics it looks great, and hard to beat the price. Let me know if you guys end up playing it. When are you guys heading over?

We leave next Friday!! The two year wait is finally over. We are staying just north of Drumcliffe right underneath Benbulben for that part of the trip. The countdown to a full Irish has begun!

AWESOME! Have a great trip, and please if you have time post pics and reviews of the courses. We’re playing Carne, Enniscrone, Strandhill, Rosses Point (County Sligo), Donegal, Narin & Portnoo, and Castle Dargan the first week of October and I’m counting the days….

I'll probably keep a little journal and write it up when I get back. We'll have some overlap with courses, so it'll be great to hear about your experiences as well.

I'll do a full post of our trip in a different post, but I did want to update you on Castle Dargan. We ended up playing there on the day (Saturday) we landed in Shannon. It was easier on our jetlagged bodies to play there and only have a 25 minute drive to our B&B afterwards compared to what we had originally planned. As you can see in the photos, we had an incredible afternoon to play golf. The course is stunning. The stories about the course holding water are true. We were lucky on the day that it was fairly dry, but you could tell that it holds moisture. I would highly recommend taking a buggy if possible. This was by far the most difficult walk of the week. Even Lahinch in 35-50MPH winds was easier. The next day at Strandhill, one of the guys in the pro shop asked my brother where we played the day before. When my brother mentioned that we had walked Castle Dargan, his response was 'WTH did you do that for?'. My recommendation is don't book the round in advance. See how the weather has been leading up to your round and decide whether to give it a go or play another round at Strandhill (super fun course). It was easy enough to book on GolfNow the morning of. It won't be your favorite course of the week, but if its not wet and you get the 25 euro afternoon rate, you won't be mad about it.

Looks like the perfect place to play right off the plane. Won’t beat us up too bad and like you, it’s 20 minutes from our Airbnb.
