Maybe a dumb question but is the "23 Anser 2" just the black version or has the milling changes on the original 4 models for this year?

It’s a very good question that I don’t know the answer to.  I only noticed it went from deep to mid milled when i held the putters next to each other.  Not sure if this is a full line change.  It’s very subtle and an improvement IMO.

Was able to play around with an Anser D today. Was very impressed with everything about it...which is good because I already ordered one last week. Kinda reminded me of the Toulon Chicago I had briefly last year.

I’ve been comparing the PLD DS72 with the Oslo 4. Really prefer the Oslo head, but I’m much better with a face balanced putter.  I don’t see that option through PING and don’t want to spend PLD custom money. Could a local club fitter make that happen?

Pulled the trigger on a PLD Anser D. Love the compact shape and the tri sole. 
 

It was between the PLD Anser and the Anser D. Ultimately, I liked the sight line and the overall forgiveness of the Anser D but I can see an Anser in my near future… 

 

As compared to the Scotty’s, I preferred the feel (slightly) and the look (strongly) on both models. The PLD line is an absolute classic IMHO.

I've heard.... from a fitter that Ping corrects the head length when changing length. So if you order from Ping they will send you the correct head weight (350) for your desired length. I believe that's how they do it.

I'm between the two myself. I did find a shop with a PLD and one of the 2023 insert models to try, but it was the DS72 and the Tyne G--neither of which I can aim very well, so the experience felt sort of off. But I agree with you, the 2D felt and sounded different from most insert putters I've tried--not a bad different, though.

 

PLD felt great, I thought it sounded a little more muted than the new Super Special Camerons, and was maybe a little firmer, too. Newport 2 plus was a very nice putter, but I did like the feel/sound of the PLD more.

 

I've currently got a 2D and a PLD DS72. The 2D is definitely softer off the face compared to the PLD but by no means as soft as the 2021 Ping insert putters I used to own. I'm loving the 2D, can't wait to try the PLD Anser D when it arrives in Australia.

Between the PLD Anser D and Super Select Scotty line (Newport/Squareback: if you tested them), which would you say feels/sounds more firm?

To me… it was a toss up. If I had yo say one was firmer I would say the Scotty was a touch firmer.

 

For reference, I tested out the Super Select Newport and the Newport+.

What's the difference in feel/weight/balance between the stepless steel shaft and the graphite shaft?

Got my Anser D yesterday. Got to putt outside a bit today. I didn't notice putting inside on carpet with a ProV1, but hitting outside with ProV1x and Bridgestone Tour B X, when hit right on the sweet spot there is a light metallic ting/ping sound. Moving away from the sweet spot it gets more dead/solid like a normal milled putter. I really like the audible feedback letting me know if I hit it well. This particular model is nice and hefty, too, which I am enjoying.

Good to hear!  Although I haven’t hit it yet, the Anser D is def on my radar for next purchase. Looks so good and I was hoping for a bit of a firmer sound/feel. I’ll check it out soon.
