Golf Scoring VS performance

I score better with balls like Pinnacle Rush / Maxfli Straightflis but I keep buying 3 Pc tour balls. Anyone else pick feel over actually results

I find I score roughly the same whether I play a tour ball or 2 piece surlyn. It probably "helps" that I don't hit a lot of gir.

I tried my share of 3 piece balls over the years. I have NEVER, in 24 years, spent money on the "tour" balls. ProV's, TP5's, BX's, ZV's, and the like. Have tried some lower priced 3 piece offerings, but, lost them faster than I wanted to..Too much spin off the tee for me, being inconsistent with my swing. 2 piece distance balls that are somewhat soft, or slighy firm work well for me, off the tee, and around the green. At this time, TopFlite Hammer Control in yellow is my gamer. Good distance, plays well around the greens. My scoring is coming down, so my performance on the course is getting better. I've actually gotten a couple of GIR's, back to back, on par 4's, and have flirted with birdies on par 5's. So, my game is looking much better this season. And, I didn't have to change my shoes to change my game. If I lose a couple of the HC's, it's not a big deal.

You have never played with a prov1 or tp5?

Yeah, I have, but never purchased them. Was up in Michigan, probably ten years ago, on this course, and this one hole is a dogleg right. We tee off, and we both went thru the dogleg, on the left. Light tree line, so we go in looking, and there are dozens of balls, all just laying there. Most of them were ProV's, of all models, some were even 392's. So, nobody else on the course, me and the BIL, start scooping up balls, and dumping them in the shoe compartment on my bag. We literally pulled out our shirt tails in front, and filled them up, ran to the cart and dumped. We cleaned up there pretty good. We finished, go back to hotel, and I start dumping out these balls on the carpet. Six dozen almost on the money. So, I played them on and off next 2 seasons. Not good off the tee for me, as my 80 mph swing speed did not seem like a good match. Ball felt like I was hitting a brick. Was barely making 200 yards off the tee, if I was in the fairway. Around the greens was a different story. If I sliced into the trees, who cares, I would tee another one. Great control when I would get to the green, putting was a little clicky. I gave a couple dozen to friends that play them, sold two dozen, cheap. Yeah, so I've played them, but will never pay for them. I can see why pro's play them, as the ball was so predictable around the greens. A little too expensive for my game!! Never, ever hit a TP5. Never have found one, to try, and I am not buying one either..Sorry, not for me.
