Need help! Course Recommendations around Palm Beach

Going to palm beach gardens to visit my parents for a week and looking to get some rounds in. I've played Florida Club in Stuart, pga village in St Lucie and Links at Madison Greens in Royal Palm. I have no problem traveling 45 minutes either way. Any nice tracks to recommend would be appreciated. Would like to keep the greens fees reasonable.

The closest public course to Palm Beach Gardens is Abacoa Golf Club and it's a great track. Should be around $100 or less this time of year. I could get you on at mine, but the guest fees are rediculous right now.

 

Also check out The Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart/Hobe Sound.

I forgot to mention another great one in the area that is open to the public - North Palm Beach County Club on US 1 between PGA Blvd and Northlake Blvd.

 

This course had a complete re-design last year and is now a Nicklaus Signature course. It is truly outstanding to play, but very difficult. All of the older recreational golfers that were their mainstay are upset that the course is too difficult for them now.

 

The course has difficult bunkers and buried elephants in the greens. They are fast and true, but lots of break. Off of the tee, you must avoid the bunkers, even if it means hitting 3 more clubs into the green. It's definately worth playing.

Good stuff Bill thanks. I had played North palm beach before Jack redesigned it and i'm not surprised the regulars aren't happy. The old course was pretty basic and short even from the tips. Looking forward to seeing if I can handle a Jack design.

North Palm is not even close to being the same course that it used to be. It has been completely re-routed and completely changed. You won't even recognize any of the old course in it as you play.

 

Reviews are mixed about it. The casual, older, higher handicap golfer does not like the changes. The better players think it is a great, but very challenging course. It seems more like a Dye design than Nicklaus.

 

You also have Palm Beach Gardens Municipal, but only if your other options fail. The Golf Club of Jupiter, (formerly Indian Creek), is another option. Very short course - Par 68 I think, but I heard it's in excellent condition.

 

Best choices are North Palm Beach CC, Abacoa and Summerfield.

 

As I mentioned, feel free to e-mail me and I can get you out at PGA National if I have the time while you're here, but it'll cost you between $75 -$250 depending on which course we play.

Adios and Pinetree

Only if you know a member. No question, Pinetree is a great course, but very private. You might as well have mentioned Seminole and Jupiter Hills, too.

 

I played Pinetree a couple years ago. I drove up in my brand new 6 day old Nissan Maxima loaded with all options. Compared to the cars there, if felt like I might as well have been in a 1963 rusted out Ford Pickup.

Have you guys played pga village north/south/dye since they reworked the courses like last year? How are they?

Good luck getting on Adios or Pinetree....Both are super exclusive and really hard to get on, unless you know a member or one of the golf pros and might be a golf pro yourself. Also Adios is an all men's club....pretty interesting stuff.

 

I would throw another nod in there for Abacoa and North Palm. Both great tracks for a decent price.

Definitely go play Abacoa the rates are very affordable. I haven't had the chance to play it myself but I hear nothing but good things about it.

I agree with Bill about Pinetree. I felt slightly out of place. Saw my fill of Bentleys. Love the course.

One more that many people overlook is West Palm Beach Country Club. It's a pretty nice track, although conditions are sometimes a little iffy. Great track, though.

 

I would rank them in the following order:

 

1. North Palm Beach CC

2. Abacoa

3. PGA Village

4. Champions at Summerfield

5. West Palm Beach CC

6. Florida Club

7. Polo Trace

8. Madison Green

9. Golf Club of Jupiter

10. Palm Beach Gardens Municipal

It's a very solid course, but as I said, conditions are sometimes poor.

 

I've played it in the past and the ground was hard and weedy. Other times, it was pristeen. I have no idea of the conditions right now, but we haven't had alot of rain lately.

 

Prices would leave me to believe it needs some work, but I really don't know.

dcas, you should join lastminutegolf.com for good prices on ft lauderdale, palm beaches courses. sign in at 5 pm for tomorrows courses. that said, pga village is the best place to play in the area, especially if you are going to play 36. last week all courses were great. i love the dye. madison green is always in nice shape and tough. one missing is deer creek in deerfield beach. beautiful track. forget adios, seminole, pinetree unless you know somebody. have a good time.

Great input gentlemen - my flight just got canceled so i'm stuck in awful NY in a blizzard for another day. Was ready to tee it high and let it fly this afternoon in sunny FLA.
