ARRCOS, THE GRINT, GOLFSHOT, ECT..

Recommended Posts

Arccos is nice if it works with little to no issues on the course, but the yearly membership is currently $155/yr. I cancelled my membership because that's just too much for the amount of golf I play up in Canada. I like the info but I'm not playing enough to really use it.

The Grint I don't remember if it has the ability to track shots but it does have a GPS and if you go to premium for $20/yr I think you get more features plus a USGA recognized handicap.

There's also 18Birdies which I've used a bit and it's pretty solid. I'm up in Canada and using the GolfCanada app since it tracks my handicap, has a GPS and includes insurance for $50CAD/yr so not bad there.

I use The Grint (free version) and you can track shots easily and then review all tracked shots after the round.  On the rare occasion I outdrive my bro I like to screenshot it and send it multiple times before our next round.  I tried Arccos but for me I found myself on my phone to much correcting shots.  Their annual fee just went up to $150 which is pretty steep when there are free apps out there that offer basic golf data.

Another alternative to consider is Garmin golf watches since they auto track shots and don't have an annual fee.  I just sold my S62 since I use my rangefinder mostly anyway with the Grint for score keeping.

I'm hoping to get the Arccos sensors from my wife for Christmas. I'd say "expecting to" because it was one item on a very short list, but there's a chance I won't. For me it's that I want much more accurate distance tracking on shots.

I don't track shots in The Grint because I'm not on my phone all round. I currently use that for scoring tracking (and our group skins game) so all I need to do is pull it out between the green and the next tee to log scores, but I would HATE to have to mess with it after every shot. I'm hoping that Arccos automates that a little better.

I love my Garmin Fenix 5X watch, but I'm a little annoyed that what was their "flagship" watch doesn't have the features that their golf-specific watches have. Even much lower-end models do more golf-specific stuff. My buddy bought one for something like $129 and every time he takes a shot it asks him what club he hit, while the Fenix 5X doesn't. So while my Garmin watch is great for multi-sport activities, the Fenix itself isn't used for anything other than GPS distance to the green, and I'm usually shooting the pin with my rangefinder anyway. The Garmin golf watch supposedly is tracking shots via the app, but every time I go into the app to look, they're all SO horrifically wrong that it would be more trouble than its worth to try to edit them.

I didn't even finish my free trial of Arccos. No way is Arccos worth the 155 a month subscription!! Shotscope would basically do the same thing for 129 one time pay. But I decided to just use a good rangefinder. It gives you all the yardage for your clubs you need.
