Anyone have experience with CaddyTrek electric pushcarts? Specifically, the R3?

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for a new electric pushcart and haven't been able to find much information on this brand.  Does anyone have any experience using a CaddyTrek?

CaddyTrek Shop - CaddyTrek R3 - Robotic Golf Caddy, Smart Electric Golf Cart

This new version seems to check all of the boxes of important things to consider

- follow mode (looks to be a new kind of camera system without having to carry remote)

- straight line tracking

- relatively light weight and easy to get in/out of car

- they pay for shipping both ways for warranty work

This will be my first time purchasing an electric pushcart, price is not a consideration, just looking for the best option available that is reliable.  I have seen mixed reviews on every cart out there and I am starting to get paralysis from analysis.

Am I missing something here?

Appreciate any advice.

I have the R2.  I don't trust mine enough to use the follow mode.  I use the remote to guide it.  The key to not crashing it or having it wander off is to put it in standby mode when you're hitting a shot.  I've seen way too many of my friends dump their caddy trek into the bunker or even worse, the lakes.  Overall, I'm happy with mine, and it's great not to carry a bag or push a cart.

That is a pretty cool camera system they use in the R3.  I like it a lot.  I'd need to do more research.  I use a Stewart X9.

Only a few questions on the R3.  I'll assume you need to be in front of the cart for it to begin following you, because of the camera direction.  I know the R2 uses radio frequency and it is 1 directional.  You have to be in front of the cart for the follow to work.  If you turn too fast you'll exit the signal direction and it'll stop.  The X9 uses BT and is 360*.  You can't walk out of the signal.  You can be anywhere near the cart and it'll turn around and follow you.  With the X9 the only way it'll stop following is if you run too fast you can outpace it.

Good luck in your search.  I considered the R2 when I bought my Stewart 3 years ago.  The difference in the radio frequency and BT is what made up my mind to buy the X9.

BTW with the R3 you still have the remote, it's just following "you" not the "remote".  You'd need the remote unless you plan on walking to the front of the cart/camera system to begin the follow mode each time.   With the X9 or the R3 you use the remote to bring the cart to you or to where you are headed before engaging the follow mode.   With the X9 you can be pretty much anywhere inside 10ft from the cart and it'll turn to follow you.  With the R3 you'd need to be in front of it to start the follow.  It seems like a small thing but my X9 turns to follow me a bunch during a round.   I'd find it kind of unnatural to have to get in front of the cart to begin the follow mode.  Hope this helps in your decision.

I ended up ordering the Forecaddy from Foresight.  I have a QC Quad and it's been bullet proof over the years.  I know some people have had issues with the Forecaddy and I am a little nervous.  However, the recent sale of $1,500 made me decide to pull the trigger.  I talked to my Foresight rep and he told me that the early versions had known issues, but the newer ones have addressed the issues and feedback has been positive.

Fingers crossed 🤞

  • 11 months later...

I bought a CaddyTrek R3 about 1.5 months ago and it has been fantastic. It is like having a caddy but not having to listen to advice! I got a great price from Motogolf in NV. They were great to do business with, they even threw in many free and helpful items. What I like most about the R3 is that I no longer have to control how it follows me. I just walk and by using a camera it keeps track of my movements, when I move it moves and stops when I stop it stops.

I am 71 years old and in great shape, I have been walking golf courses for most of my life. When I turned 60 I decided to use a three wheel push cart rather than carry my bag. In the last few years my wife has said I am starting to walk like an old man, slightly bent over at the chest. Even though I am old I certainly did not want to look old and was stating to think it was me pushing my three wheel golf cart that was causing this slumped look. I play golf 5 days a week.  After considering all of the alternatives, I invested in the CaddyTrek R3. Now I walk  a golf course standing straight up and swinging my arms as I walk. I feel the difference and am glad I decided to get the newest invention in walking a golf course.
