We have three of our members testing out the Cleveland Golf RTX Full-Face Wedges. The Full-Face grooves and high toe design from these wedges offer added control around the green. The "clutch", or C grind allows you to really manipulate the face and hit any shot you need. The members below will be reporting back to the community about the things that they have noticed while testing this product. Please feel free to ask any questions that you might have, as the testers will be happy to answer them!

  • GolfWRX_Official changed the title to MEMBER REVIEWS: Cleveland Golf RTX Full-Face Wedges! See What Members Are Saying!

Thanks so much to both Cleveland Golf and Golf WRX! Let's get into some irony, shall we?

I had gone for a wedge fitting at Club Champion a week or so before being notified I had been selected. My Vokey stuff was in need of an update for sure. I had completely forgotten about throwing my name in the hat for this experience.

Long story short, the fitter completely flaked on me. I even reached out noting I was off on a Wednesday would come by and buy a few wedges. His response was quick...he was off that day too...then he ghosted me.

Not my first experience with full face as I tried the PM grind from Cally when first introduced. I can tell you all my first range session had me grinning from ear to ear. I selected tour satin in 52/56 and raw in 60. Incredibly solid feel and ball flight. Never been a fan of dynamic gold. This spinner shaft is changing that for sure. Consistency and smooth feel on full swing shots.

Wednesday I'm headed to Sweeten's Cove to put them to the test. Will update then...very excited after initial practice session. Thanks again to all involved.

P.S. Thanks Cleveland for using easy peel labels... minimal goo gone used.

First I just want to say thank you to GolfWRX and Cleveland Golf for the opportunity.

I received a 58* wedge last Thursday while I was on the course. They were kind enough to install a Golf Pride MCC+4 grip on there for me.

It looks like the 50* will ship sometime this week and the 54* is on back order for another two weeks. So for now I have the 58* wedge and will give my thoughts.

I’ve never used a full face wedge, so this will be a new experience for me.

About Me

I’m around a 6-8 handicap, playing out of Lost Springs Golf and AC in Rogers, Arkansas. I’ve been playing around 8 years now. I use a combo set of Srixon Z785/Z forged, Vokey SM9 54/58*, TM MG2 50*, TM stealth Driver, TM Sim 3W/5W, Scotty Squareback Putter.

Looks

I wanted to start off by showing the grooves on the Cleveland, then doing a comparison of grooves with a Vokey SM9 and a TaylorMade MG2. These are the other wedges that I use and while I know those two aren’t full face, it’s good to see comparison grooves.

You can see the Cleveland has what appears to be “tighter” grooves with a more distinct pattern in between each groove versus the other two.

Performance

This morning I went and hit 75 balls at the practice area, and the Cleveland just feels…different, than the Vokey or MG2, in a good way. It grabs the ball upon impact and it launches quick.

The practice area I use is not kept up very well, it’s it’s just cut with a typical fairway mower and it’s not wet or overly dry right now. It has around five or six flags at varying distances. I use a mixture of 3A or 4A balls for practice. I was hitting mostly at the 50 yard flag with a hand full at the 80 yard flag.

Normally when I hit a ball here it bounces a few times and rolls out, but with the Cleveland the ball would bounce once and stop, or bounce twice and stop. Maybe a handful actually rolled out like they normally would with the other wedges I use. I used a variety of shots, high lobs, normal lob, low shots, standard pitch style, flop shots.

Turf interaction is good, it easily moves through if it’s a fat shot, open or closed face doesn’t matter. I use my 58* for a lot of different shots and need versatility in that specific wedge. With the limited testing I did this morning it performed well.

Data

I also went and used a Foresight GC Quad today as well, and my spin numbers were fairly impressive with the Cleveland.

On full swing shots I was averaging 10,400 rpm for backspin and 100-110 yards. I topped out at 10,800 RPMs and 112 yards with a full swing. On easy swings I would average around 7900 RPM’s backspin.

Day 1 Summary

So far the Cleveland RTX Full face wedge is performing above expectations. I typically practice and play Monday through Thursday so I’ll be documenting face and finish wear as well as continued spin numbers with face wear.

Got a chance to play Sweetens Cove all day yesterday.  Course was in great shape with large very undulated greens and rolling 12.5 on stimp. Perfect chance to put new wedges to the test with lots of tight lies around the greens plus enough wind to make it interesting.

I'm still adjusting to the yardages since I'm coming off 50/54/58 gapping with my old Vokey set. The 60 has quickly become a new friend in the set for me.  Cleveland did a GREAT job with the bounce and relief no matter how you open it up.  The bunkers were actually waste areas...kind of a compact dirt that was very playable.  Tight lies were no problem around the greens and 60-80 yard shots with latest version of Z Star were incredibly reliable.  Stopping power was awesome and as much if not a bit more than the Vokey I am used to.

I wanted to comment as well on the two finishes I chose: tour satin vs raw.  Both finishes have been great. However, when I sit the tour satin down at address it instills confidence. Bright sunlight has zero effect on tour satin either. Great job again Cleveland in design compared to some other brands full face clubs.

Once again thanks to Cleveland Golf and this awesome site for the opportunity. Very excited about getting better with these wedges.

I received my 50* and I’ve been pounding away on it and the 58* as much as I can since the weather here has been less than 40 degrees and windy.

For the 50* I’m averaging around 8000+ rpms for backspin on the GC Quad. I’m still getting used to the shafts as I did have KBS $ tapers with a stiff+ profile in my previous wedges. I’ll give a finish update later this week as the weather will be warmer and I plan on getting in 54 holes (and practice) in the next coming days.

Hey GolfWRX community!
First off I’d like to thank Cleveland and GolfWRX for the giveaway. These will be a huge help to me as I chase the dream on the mini tours next year. So far I’ve received my 50* Black satin and the 58* raw and am now just waiting on the 54* black satin but I know what to expect after doing extensive testing with these. Between work and travel I’ve been able to play 18 holes and practice for probably about 7-8 hours on the chipping green plus some range time too with my work’s Trackman 4.

Full disclosure: I also have 2 tour issue 58*/60* with less bounce and more heel relief to compare them to which I feel helped me a ton!

Now I normally play Tour Issue S400’s or Modus 125 Tour Only in my wedges but I didn’t want to ask too much so I got the DG Spinners because I was so intrigued in the 59* setup. I got them at +1/2” and 1* upright which they did perfectly!

What I’ve Seen:  My miss is typically on the toe side especially since I play all of my chip shots with an open face. I’ll be honest I was nervous about the look of the 50* until it arrived, but now I love it! The full shots on the 50* have been incredibly consistent even off the toe side and that sold me on them quickly. Spin has gone up quite a bit which is one of two things...my grooves are ready to be changed and/or these just spin a ton especially with the DG Spinner. I added a few pics of the short game area as well as trackman for dispersion purposes. Full 50* and 3/4 59* which goes 85 yards.

Not a contest winner, but I just picked up a full set.

I'll re-grip over the winter and put them in the bag next spring.

Still using my old (Miura/PM Grind) wedges over the cold months.

First impressions are I love how they're full groove, but not shaped weird like the PM Grind.

Small chipping around the office has me pretty excited for next spring already!

Got to play another 18 yesterday with the 50&58* and I must say that they are as good as advertised. Greens were on the firmer side at The Cliffs Valley and these things still spun a ton. I missed 3 greens and had tap ins on 2/3 with one being even on a pretty bad toe strike. The low spinner is my favorite shot and these make it crazy easy to hit.

All in all I am super happy with these and I’ll keep updating

You poor thing getting to play The Cliffs on the regular 🙂. I totally agree with your assessment I have the raw 60 and pitch/chip shots are very controllable especially with full face concept.

I have to reiterate the shafts are much better than I anticipated and more accurate for me than any previous brand I played.

I’m not one of the three testers, but I did win the recent giveaway from @GolfWRX and @Cleveland_Golf, so a big thanks to them for the contest!  I got my 52*-58*-64* set of Tour Satin Full-Face wedges in this past weekend, and I have had a chance to put in two long range sessions and play one round with them so far. I was already gaming a 52* and 58* RTX Zipcore wedge set, so I had some good expectations coming in.

My original 52-58 were mid grind, so I was a little concerned to see how the C grind would fit me, but so far so good. We have had a lot of rain here, and I have a steep swing, so if I was going to have problems with the grind it would have happened right off the bat. No such worries, though as the new full-face wedges have been great!  Something about the full-face grooves just puts me at ease, even over full shots with the 52. The 58 has felt great in the bunkers and with short pitches, and the 64 is going to add a nice addition to my bag as a short side only club. As long as I don’t get too carried away  with it I think it will maintain a spot in the bag. The RTX milled grooves have a ton of bite, and I am really liking the Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Spinner shafts, which I have in both the old and new sets. Distance control has been very consistent, and I have been able to flight the 52 and 58 very easily. All the specs and swing weights have been spot on, so kudos to Cleveland Golf for that

I have tried PM Grind and Hi-Toe versions before, but to me I am enjoying the shape of these RTX Full-Face wedges to those two hands down. And my son is happy because he has a new to him set of wedges now that these have made it into the bag!

Alrighty my dudes and dudettes. Let’s talk a look at these clubs now that I’ve had them for a small bit.

I’ve had the 58 and 50 for about two months now, and the 54 for a little bit more than a month.

Obviously you can tell which one I use the most just by looking at the finish wear.

I use my 58* for virtually anything inside 90 yards, including sand shots/chipping. It’s also the one I get the most practice with because those are the shots that matter the most, right? Occasionally I’ll use something else for bump and runs but for the most part it’s my 58* that puts in the most work.

It’s been pretty cold and rainy here the past couple of months (it was December and January) so a lot of practice was done inside at the sim lab and on my carpet using foam balls. But, I do get out and practice on grass then play 18 at least twice a week as long as the course is open. I only work Friday Saturday Sunday so it leaves me a lot of time to golf throughout the week.

The 50* gets the least amount of use, really maybe 10 shots to warm up as I’m going through clubs, and I’ll use it maybe three times a round.

You can see the finish is holding up quite well, even with a pocket wire brush to clean the grooves out a couple of times a round when they’re really muddy and a towel can’t get it.

The grooves are holding steady and still getting the same amount of spin numbers. It’s really easy to put spin on the ball with these clubs, sometimes it spins too much and rips back more than I’d like.

overall I’m highly pleased with these wedges so far and will continue to check in and document wear and tear

on them.

Just checking back in on this after some longer-term testing. Over time I noticed that I was more consistent with the mid-grind on my wedges, so I have rotated back to the original ZipCore 52* and 58* with the mid-grind.

I have kept the 64* full face in the bag though, as I have room for it and have found that it is really helpful for the extremely short-sided shot from rough or sand. I won't even dream of using it on a tighter lie, but it has been a great addition for me when it's the right situation. I have only used it twice in 5 rounds of golf on the course, and I think that is the sweet spot for the ultra-lob wedge anyway. I love the full-face grooves when standing over the types of shot this club excels at.

Small chipping around the office has me pretty excited for next spring already!

We've had a bit of an "Indian" winter here in northern IL/southern Wi.  I've had 8 round through mid December and earl January already.  Normally I won't change clubs until the spring because winter conditions are so iffy, but said WTF and put the wedges in my bag.  I'm loving the 54 around the green.  I love the full groves without the really high toe look.

I'm still "iffy" about the 58 replacing my PM 60 in the bunkers because that was the greatest sand wedge I've ever owned, but I'm going to give it a fair chance.

If I can pull off 75% the bunker shots I did with the PM it's may be worth going in the bag because of the other opportunities I'm missing with the PM.  The super high toe left me feeling uncomfortable over full shots and I used the PM exclusively in the sand.  If I can use the Cleveland in the bunker, around the green, AND for full shots it's a keeper.  I just have to prove to myself it can pull off the bunker shot the PM can do.

Regardless, the 50 and 54 has won me over already.

I can confirm comments about mid grind from @JDTex. Seem to offer more versatile options in varying conditions.

I would also like to reiterate my comments about the stock shaft. Much more consistent for me for sure. I do still want to try the modus wedge shaft in one as I play 105x in my irons.

Cold where I live right now so mostly range sessions when I can.

Again thanks to golfwrx and Cleveland golf so far been a really great upgrade for my game.

Playing the weekend on frozen Chicago greens and I was able to still somehow stop the ball on full wedge shots.

I can’t wait to watch the ball rip back this spring, lol.
