Royal St Georges

Has anyone from the states travelled and played here recently? I will be playing there in April, and would love to know peoples experiences and any insight into details around the club environment.

Hi, I played Royal St George's in 2019. 

 

The club is prestigious but welcoming by American standards. Be respectful and if you have any questions ask in an email long before you get to the course. They will want a handicap from somewhere.

 

When you arrive you will walk from the carpark towards the clubhouse,the golf shop is on the left side. When I arrived I wasn't sure who but someone directed me into a side door to the locker room, where I was able to leave my change of clothes and shoes. The caddie master will try to sell you on a caddie. I didn't take one but wish I did. 

 

Anyway I then played golf per usual and returned, showered in the locker room and put on my coat and tie (required to access the clubhouse) and proceeded to have a drink in the bar and explore the history of the place. I highly recommend bringing the coat and tie for that reason.

 

After that I walked with my clubs the mile or so back to Sandwich and caught a bus back to my lodging. RSG is not the easiest to get to but the local busline is called Stagecoach, and it connects all the various locales in Kent.

Agree with everything here.  You may want to take a caddie to guide you around the beautiful, expansive landscape.  It is an expensive day with that greens fee plus caddie.  I still find myself daydreaming about Sandwich.  What an experience!
