Scotty Squareback vs Odyssey Double Wide

Does anyone own a Scotty Squareback and Odyssey Double Wide?

 

Have held a double wide and want to buy it, but would prefer the Scotty if it's comparable in head size.

I'd have to order from overseas though without holding the Scotty.

 

Would love a pic side by side

There are quite a few versions of the Odyssey double-wide right now: white hot og (double-bend), versa (double-bend), and two TiHot5ks (one plumbers neck model and one double bend model)

 

Besides the basic similarities of a wide blade, they’re pretty different (obviously the biggest difference being one has an insert and the other is milled).

 

Not that it matters, but I’d personally opt for one of the Odysseys, i prefer the shape and white hot insert

 

Also keep in mind that the new Scotty super selects are coming out soon

I guess I'm mostly interested in the size comparison as a wide blade.

Shape subtleties I can deal with.

The White Hot OG and Versa dw will be smaller, or shorter, from heel-to-toe. I think the TriHot5k dw’s have a slightly larger profile than the others, and so it’s probably more similarly sized to the squareback

 

The Toulon Chicago is a great milled “wide” blade too. Not quite as wide as any of the others, probably similar to the upcoming Newport+

In case this helps, here is a picture of a 2018 Newport 2, a Newport 2+, a custom that is the same width as a special select squareback 2 and a queen B6.

It's actually a Timeless plus but it's the same shape. Has the fine milling of the special select instead of the deep milling of the super.

SNRG. He makes a great custom putter and you can find and talk to him on Instagram. Very reasonable too compared to other customs.

Been hitting putters all afternoon trying to convince myself to start liking counterbalance stroke lab putters.  Just couldn't do it.

TP Del Monte was the best I could find, but those pics just lock in the fact I really just want a squareback.

 

Selling my Phantom 5.5 ASAP haha

You can choose a steel shaft instead if you order through Odysseys website. Or (if you don’t like the feel of the counterweight in the SL shaft) you can just remove the weight plug and put on a heavier grip to compensate (or swap out the weight plug for a lighter one). That might make it feel more familiar, and then you still get the improved stiffness. SL users on Tour use various plug weights, many don’t use one at all

Just got introduced to the Bettinardi Queen B 6.

 

Just wow.

 

Don't hear much about them here in Australia but that could be even closer to what I want given the face balance.

Would prefer adjustable weights but I guess you can always play around with the shaft/grip

you should look at the bettinardi bb28.  It is the perfect looking wide blade proportionally to my eye and feels the best out of all the models to me.  I think it has 10-15 degrees of toe hang

The Bettinardi BB-8 Wide is another option worth considering.  They are a plumbers neck.  I have one as my primary gamer and a Scotty Squareback 2 in my backup bag.  

One thing to consider about the Squarebacks is that they have signifanctly changed the shape profile over the years:

 

• The original 2010-ish series was short (heel to toe) but very deep.
• The 2014 Select series was still short, but the depth was noticeably reduced.
• The 2018-2019 Select series (inserts) got significantly longer and a bit shallower.
• The latest 2020+ Special Select series reduced the length but added a bit more depth.

Again, surprised I'm only looking at it for the first time now.

 

Would you say this is longer heel to toe than Queen B 6, but not quite as deep?

I think I much prefer the look of the milling on BB28
