Cameron X11.5 - X12 - X12.5 Saft Compatibility & Customizing Toe Flow

Recommended Posts

I am on a bit of a bender, should probably stop... but I am wondering if anyone has some info?

Currently working between picking a gamer between 11.5 and 12. I have a very straight stroke through 4" or so inches around impact. However, it arcs a bit before and after the that impact area and the SAM said I needed some toe flow. Mallet head, minimal toe flow, and basically for a straight stroke is what I need.

So 11.5 fits my stroke, but 12 sort of fits my eye? I like how the sight line goes to the face. I didn't know until today about the 12.5 and that might solve all my problems...

Questions:

1. Is the shaft diameter the same between these models? Or which 2 might be compatible out of the 3? I know SC does some weird things with shaft sizing

2. Does anyone know if the toe flow on these models is driven by the shaft of the head? In other words, I am wondering if I can put my 12 head on the 11.5 shaft and will it will have the same toe flow as 11.5? or can I track down the 12.5 shaft and can I put the 12 head on the 12.5 shaft to get the toe flow? Or do the heads change it too?

Scotty always have some toe flow in his even numbered models, if I'm not mistaken. Just depends on how much toe flow you need. Didn't realize the 11.5 only had 25* or so.. expected something closer to 40*. Sorry, probably no help here but the shaft definitely drives the toe hang for these models. I assume the heads do not change the toe flow but could be wrong.

The 12 is face balanced for all intensive purposes, but I have the same theory as you do about the shafts... I am dying to test this, haha. Shame you cannot just order a Scotty Shaft

Wicked helpful thing on TGW. 11.5 and 12.5 have different toe flow.

Side note, I used a GoLo select mallet for the last 10 years and that is what I am working on changing. I would suspect this to be the closest current model.

I also bought an X5S off the classifieds to mess with that I thought that would be minimum toe flow

The shaft diameters are the same if I had to guess.  For about $20 you can get a functional set of Calipers to measure diameter. No more guessing.

The toe hang can change based on a number of things, some important factors are where the shaft enters the head (closer to the heel vs center) and the measurement from head to the bend in the shaft (shorter less hang, linger more hang)

Thanks. Safe to say messing with different shafts and heads might be a mess with unintended consequences?

Haha of course. But you never know until you try. Truthfully those putters are all so similar ot shouldn't make a significant difference . Waste of time.

I’ve wondered this as well..keep us updated if u find an answer. The main factor is whether or not the shaft tips are inserted at the same exact spot on the head between the 12 and 12.5 - if they are, then the only factor for the toe-hang is the shaft (low-bend vs high-bend); thus you should be able swap. If they aren’t in the same spot, then no.

There could be other factors that i’m unaware of though so don’t take my word for it

And Idk if the 12.5 shaft is exactly the same as the 11.5. Unless you know for certain that they’re the same, tracking down the 12.5 would be the safest bet. Unfortunately SC customer service will not release this information if u ask

Yes, this came back to why I gamed the so putter for so long. I went through 2 full bag fittings and was told the one I had worked. But, if I needed to mix it up, get a mallet that isn't perfectly face balanced you'll be okay... comes down to preference and eyeline

That is sort of why I like the 12.5 after learning of it, for the sight-line... but I am gonna try the 11.5 after seeing this, maybe that touch of extra hang is a good experiment
