Shaft extenders

Hello I have recently acquired a set of p790’s for a very good price. I have played a few rounds with the clubs and they seem short for me bedsides being standard shaft length. I am 6ft 2, Wrist to floor measurement 39”. I have been to a club fitter since and he recommended that if he was fitting me from scratch I would have 1/2” longer shaft and 2 degree upright lie. However this will cost quite a bit in new shafts. I was thinking of adding shaft extenders. I have read this increases the lie by a degree for every half inch. Would I then be able to bend the head another degree to meet the spec of the fitter. I understand by increasing length it messes up swung weight too. Should I be concerned about this. Was a lie board used to fit for lie angle?   If so, I would not trust the 2 degree up fitting.  Also, was that 2* up fitting with the exact same model head and the +1/2" length?   If not, that could also make the fitting result invalid.   It's actually best to get the  fitting results in the actual lie angle instead of a relative change - because the stock lie angle can vary between  different models.

Not exactly.   Changing length doesn't really change the lie angle.  What it changes is what lie angle might be the best fit.  And it can very from person to person how much.

If it really is needed yes, 1-2* should not be a problem.

That is definitely a potential concern.  Less so with 1/2" than say if it were a full inch.   But how much depends on where they are for swing weight to start,  how good a fit the shaft weight (club static weight) might be to you and other factors of your mechanics (including rhythm and tempo) and other personal preference for feel.

 

No way to know for sure if it will be a problem or how much of one until you actually try it.  I'd start by extending one club first.  The best one is likely the longest iron in the set that you plan on bagging.   If it is a problem - it's more likely to show up in the longer irons that it would the shorter irons.

Thanks for the replies on this everybody. Should I forgot about lie angle for the time being and add half inch shaft extenders? Would this alter anything drastically apart from obviously being more comfortable

Having gone down this road myself I would add the extensions first. I would play them and take notice of your ball direction. When I added extensions my shots were going out to the right (RH golfer). I had the lie checked and adjusted to hit a straight ball. I needed 2* up lie adjustment. I didn't worry about swing weight. I went down this road on my first set of irons years ago. After dealing with the extensions my first time I have always been fitted and I order new irons to my specs with the best swing weight.

Add the extension to one club, then test the club (weight feel) and lie angles yourself.
