Goose Pond Colony Lakes Course review and photos

We played the GPC Lakes course on Memorial Day 2023. We were scouting the location for a trip with 4-5 foursomes later this year. 

 

We really got perfect weather for a long day of golf. It was overcast through our first 27 holes before the sun broke through and shone on our final nine holes. 

 

My group enjoyed the layout. The fairways are generous but rolling and well-bunkered. There are a handful of doglegs to keep things interesting. The par threes are challenging and all the par fives are each rather different from one another. The routing does sort of fold over on itself in a few places resulting in some awkward tee box placements (notably the 7th tee which is immediately between the fourth green and fifth tee box). 

 

You can see water from just about everywhere on the course but there are no homes on the course meaning very few white stakes. You also see geese (and goose droppings) all over the place. They seem to be used to the golf traffic and we avoided any run-ins with protective mama geese. 

 

Tee to green conditions were good but not great. There are plenty of weeds and bare red clay areas to be found around the margins. This course installed new hybrid Bermuda greens last year. In our estimation they could use a little more time before they're optimal. They are quite firm and hard to hold at the moment while also being fairly bumpy to putt on. Most of the courses we play have the same type of greens these days so we have a lot of experience playing on them. I trust they'll be perfect in another six months or so. 

 

The rate for our first 18 was $70 with cart and that seems a little steep though the replay rate was only $20 for nine holes. We were indecisive about how much golf to play so we bought our extra nines a la carte...maybe there's a cheaper replay rate if you commit to 18 more holes. We didn't ask.

Really enjoy this course every time I play it. While I’ve never seen great conditions it’s still always been good conditions. Views are great. Last time out with my group I holed out for eagle on #6 from 119yds and finished the round off with a hole out eagle on #18 from 139yds. Didn’t see either drop in the hole as both greens sit above the fairways.
