Rotation and Compression

Recommended Posts

Two things I struggle with is 1. My left heel in transition and 2. Getting a little flippy at the bottom.

I’m really trying to work on better rotation through the ball without standing up. One thing I noticed is my left foot lifts up and rotates outward in my downswing. I assume it’s to try and open my

left hip to rotate. Videos below. Open to any thoughts or feedback on curing this!

Ball too far back in your stance.  You hinge too late which leads to excess wrist movement at the top and arm over run.

Then your arms are late in transition.

Ball slightly forward.  Hinge earlier and shorten your backswing.  The your arms need to accelerate earlier.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Thanks Monte. You nailed it. I push the ball back because of my stall/flip to improve contact. The late wrist set also causes a lot of downstream problems. Will work on earlier wrist set. Maybe club parallel by the time my hands hit trail thigh? Will also push ball up in stance.

A good reference point is 90* with left arm at left arm parallel p3.  Then no more.

Club head moves first.

Ball slightly forward then, for good measure, a little bit more forward, then even a little bit more forward, and you may start to feel still being in hand travel when the hands are inside the trail thigh.  I wouldn't worry too much about the lead foot movement at this time, that's small potatoes that often straightens itself out from more discipline in other areas.     On the back swing the club moves away from the target, not up from the ball.

I swung out from underneath myself, from the lower part of my body.   Byron Nelson

Thank you. Helps get my focus in the right place. On another note, I played Ballybunion last year and loved it. Tralee was an all time favorite.

@MonteScheinblum Was thinking about this question below earlier today. How often when working with a student—say 20 different students— in a live lesson do you reference or have the student feel the “cast” move? Comparatively, when working with a better than average player, how often would you work on this move with them?

Skill level is not relevant.  Some need it some don’t.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
