Turning the corner on my steepening in transition

Recommended Posts

Have been exaggerating a figure 8 sort of takeaway outside and having the arms fall away from the ball once they reach p3. Now working to get that same move with a less outside...or more neutral backswing.

Play is showing the improvement. My short iron and wedge game has really sharpened up. I don't know that I've flagged so many shoet iron and wedge shots as I have the last 3 weeks.

For the uninformed eye, your swing kind of reminds me of Hovland. Your hands come down “over” the line you take it back on, but I don’t think your club is steep at all, which is unique compared to most.

I think this has been addressed in prior posts, but your setup looks a bit unique.

What’s your miss?

I was super steep previously. I still am when I swing normal but when I'm repping that outside to under drill things look good, numbers are good. But I can't trust it fully yet. Will be a couple more months.

Until about February my miss was a bit right. Not bad right. I'd get around 4 open to path, usually if I was quick in transition. From November to April I worked solely on earlier lead side pressure then pushing up and away from the target in the downswing. Eliminated a lateral slide that I managed fairly well. With the slide gone I started to hit slight pulls. That lead to work on getting closer to the ball. But I had to change my transition in order to get closer. Been repping that and it's showing really good signs. I'm able to make the shallowing move from about 7i to 60* on course. 7i is hit or miss but my wedge game has gotten a ton better.

As for setup, as I get into a session I start getting more and more into my heels. I'm super aware of it when I play but when I'm repping drills it gets easy to overlook.

Earlier lead side pressure, down in transition, push up and back off that loaded lead side while maintaining side bend...that's what did it for me.

Do you mind dummying this down for me? Are you kind of like crunching your left side oblique (meaning the side bend?)

Yeah, their stuff is really good. If you have a weighted medicine ball then you can practice the feel of the weight and pressure shift going lead side around p3 (left arm parallel in the backswing) and the corresponding fall away from the target in the downswing. Easy to feel the downshift with a weighted medicine ball too.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
