5 Days in Cabot Cape Breton

Day 1

I booked the trip to celebrate my boyfriend's 50th birthday.

We flew from LaGuardia to Montreal, Montreal to Sydney Nova Scotia.

Then we rented a car and drove 2 hours to Cabot Cape Breton.

Door to Door, it took 10 hours from New York to Cabot.

Waze took us to some funky route which we end up crossing a small channel via ferry, drove through some off road and crossed one land wooden bridge that was barely holding it together.

But the drive was absolutely gorgeous so it didn't dent our sprit.

Finally arrived and the journey was totally worth it!

Who would've thought this was the only clear sunset we'll see during the stay... 😶

Day 2

We woke up to a beautiful day, but the rain was coming.

Our very first round was Cabot Cliffs.

Two 18-year-old-looking caddies (21 and 24) showed up for our bags.

I was suspicious, but they were one of the best caddies we ever had!

After 18 at the Cliffs, we went straight to the nest.

The Nest was nasty.

Well-deserved pints and a quick bite at The Barn.

Birthday dinner at Panorama.

The oysters were so, so good.

The rain stopped briefly to show a glimpse of the sunset.

It rained pretty hard for the rest night.

We got nothing better to do other than drinking and having fun at Whit's Public House.

Day 3

36 today.

The first 18 was Cabot Links.

There was a bit of a caddie mix-up, so I didn't get the same caddie from the previous day.

But the sub-caddie was also excellent, so I had no complaints.

IMG_1621.JPEG.994f5ce1e2d45976eb3cce87058bdc0a.JPEG

The second 18 was Cabot Cliffs.

Boyfriend quit after 9 to save himself for the next day 36.

I continued until the thunderstorm rolled in, and the course was suspended. 😞

A brief break in storms.

Day 4

Another breakfast with a view.

IMG_1681.JPEG.b2f95b637ab5e04d37df2a2104d2e21c.JPEG

The first 18 at Cabot Cliffs.

We got paired up with a Canadian couple living in North Carolina.

They are decent golfers and great people.

We enjoyed their company very much.

My caddie is back!!

By now, our synergies with our caddies are fantastic!

And of course, the day started to drizzle and marine layer.

Some fun putting.

I played pretty decent and sat at 83 going into par 5, 18th hole.

I wanted a safe play to break 90, and my caddie wanted me to clear the cliff on the second shot with 3 wood.

I chose my "safe" way to the left side of the fairway with 5 wood, but he insisted that I should hit another one just to see.

I did clear the cliff as he said and landed 80 yards in.

Then proceeded to my first shot to chunk the third, shank the fourth, chip the fifth, and two-putt.

I shot 90.

Always listen to your caddie!!!

The Second and last round of the trip was Cabot Links.

The marine layer got thick, and it was hard to see things.

We exchanged phone numbers with the group ahead and behind for shot safety.

Unfortunately, we had to retire at the 15th hole due to a lack of visibility.

Too bad we couldn't finish the second round both days, but what we had was tremendous so we can't be upset.

Now we are back at Whit's Public House for the one last time, and fun was had.

Day 5

Of course, the day we left, the weather turned beautiful! lol

IMG_5572.JPEG.721e5bc12aa0a2fc859605b8d0ec3ebc.JPEG

And Waze took us straight back to that random route.

We worried about Air Canada's reputation for delays, cancellations, and lost bags.

But our flights were on time, and the bags arrived safely.

When you are in Cabot:

- Make sure to get a room closer to the Links pro shop.

Having a 2-3 minute walk to and from The Bar, Panorama, and Whit's Public House was very convenient.

- I requested an outdoor access room, but the first-floor room's door doesn't slide open.

If you want a balcony, ask for the second-floor balcony room.

- Eat cookies at the 1st tee at the Links and the Cliffs.

   They are free and delicious.

IMG_1682.JPEG.c7f407f6f634d275d04195de836d4d36.JPEG

- Each room has a putter cup but do not take them with you.

You can buy it at the Links and the Cliffs pro shops; they each have a different logo.

- If you get tired of the resort food, drive down the road to Little Red Wagon.

  Their cheeseburger was unbelievably delicious.

IMG_1728.JPEG.5167f1c7798916a2eb9b089a3912d6ba.JPEG

- Eat lots and lots of oysters.

I regret I only had a half dozen.

IMG_1588.JPEG.8897927e1a0fb46e117fcbed00ea6979.JPEG

- Hang out at Whit's Public House and meet the locals.

Canadians are truly lovely people, and we made many new friends.

I think that's about it for this trip.

If I remember anything else, I'll add it later.

We can't wait to return in 2025!

Why not just fly Newark to Halifax and drive from there?

would have probably cut your travel time in half

We don't like flying in and out of Newark (we live in Westchester, it's really far from us), and my boyfriend hates being in a car longer than a couple of hours (he's 6'4", 250lbs).

Since this was his birthday trip, I catered everything to his needs and wants.

Great write up.

Website shows caddie rates at $90 per bag in Canadian dollars. That’s approximately $68 USD.  Sounds low to me, is that what you paid?

Being an idiot I forgot to get canadian money. I asked my caddie every which way I could if he was okay with USD and he said it was no big deal. I gave him a US $100 after each round and then an extra $100 after the last round.

Sorry, I just got back from Wisconsin.

I didn't have time to check this thread.

We usually match the gratuity to the bag fee.

We paid USD 150 per bag for each round, and the caddies were happy.

They have no problem accepting USD instead of CAD.
