The Feeling

Hi All, just a short question.

When you are setting up to the ball with your irons should you have the feeling that you are setting up over the ball or next to it / along side of it?

Cheers

I don't have an answer for you....

Other than I spend a few seconds to visualize the shot window then set up to the ball, and its go time.

So what is your setup routine? Do you have a number of steps you go through at address prior to pulling the trigger?

You'll see what you see, and feel what you feel, but it's a great question nonetheless.  I'm over my hands and feeling an openness on the lead side and squareness from the trail side with the club in the middle of those two areas.

I swung out from underneath myself, from the lower part of my body.   Byron Nelson

Not sure if it’s what you’re asking, but I have to setup along side of the ball (not only irons but woods and driver also) or else, if I setup ‘over it’ my aim automatically gets left a tad (righty); with shoulders / torso opening up, even with the intermediate target spot a few feet in front of the ball - because something seems off when looking at the target. You have to be diligent in your PSR in order to ‘step into your play box’ from your think box (from behind the ball to next to it) correctly.

It seems to be a highly individualised sport in this respect. Whilst there are accepted norms for setup and swing there are so many differences between players yet all can get good results. I often wonder if body dimensions affect setup and swing and it seems small changes can yield big differences in results. I'm sure we feel like every day we are setting up and swinging the same but at times it feels different and we get different results.

That's exactly the type of thing I am talking about. I find I can hit my short irons well when over the ball and it feels effortless but as the clubs get longer if feels more cramped that way and I have to go more alongside it and my angles seem to change with this.

This is why in your PSR, when you step into your playbox, your intermediate target has to be just a few feet in front of your ball, so that you align your club face to it, and only then set up your feet (coming in ‘from the side’, circle motion getting to the ball) and when glancing at your target, it’s a head motion only (neck rotation) and no head swivel, since this would automatically open up your shoulders and torso

That all makes sense, the only thing I don't understand is the circle motion, can you explain what you mean by that?

Just that you see guys, when going from their think box to their play box, they step into their shot... coming in from the side to make sure they set up to 'the side of the ball' and not coming straight in from the back (thoughter to write than to explain haha)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
