Atlanta area golf

Hello all! By some miracle of Jesus I won Masters tickets and will be staying in the Atlanta area during the tourney.  I am looking for suggestions of where to play, and not play in the area.  I thank you all for the assistance.

Feel like we should do a golfwrx outing somewhere for all of us that got in.

Do you know where at near Atlanta? Pretty much everything near downtown is either private or municipal courses that aren't that special, although Bobby Jones can be fun to play. Go about 30 minutes out and there's lots of good options every direction.

Private is king in Atlanta.  For public below are your best options IMO in no particular order.  Keep in mind they are all pretty far away from downtown.  

• Bear's Best
• The Frog (used to be great but was so-so last time i played)
• Echelon
• Stone Mountain (2 courses)
• Chateau Elan

Not sure of your budget, but if you are looking to spend some money look at staying out at Reynolds Plantation with a stay and play.  If not start with Echelon and go from there.

His budget needs to be healthy to play at reynolds during masters week.

I am also looking for a course to play the Sunday before Masters week begins.  How does the Standard Club rank among those listed above.  I know the Standard Club is private but I should be able to get on there with Troon Prive’ access.

 

Is Hawk’s Ridge strictly a “you need to know someone” type access?  Given that it is a little further from Atlanta, I wonder if it is an option if my club’s GM called?

Standard Club had a nice, well-conditioned layout.  I think you can for sure get on somehow.  They need literally every penny they can get their hands on.  For a lower end country club they have an above average course with below average overall facilities.

 

Hawks Ridge will be harder to get on with a call, but I don't think impossible.

You didn't ask, but the University of Georgia course is much closer to Augusta and provides a 7200 yard 75 rating course from the tips.

I have heard that the course is awesome.  My son is a sophomore at UGA and we are yet to play it.  It is really, really hard to get a tee time there.  Super busy.

It’s a fantastic course. Weekends are tough to get on but you can reserve well in advance (but you have to buy a foursome).

Cherokee Run out in Conyers is always a blast.  Arnold Palmer design and greens were usually lightning when I used to live in ATL.
