Struggling with blocks and slices

I'm struggling a lot with my driver lately - generally, my miss is a super high slice that starts right and goes further. My good hits still curve right a bit, just not as much and they start left of target. I also have a fun two way miss - sometimes I just pull it straight left.

I clearly have an out to in swing path, but I'm a little stumped how I'm getting to that path from my position. I'd love some drills to work on to try and dial this in. Thanks!!

Its all in the attempt to turn hard to start the downswing. Look how high your right shoulder is in transition and how much it turns before your hands get down. The backswing looks fine, but i would have you work on the sequence: lateral movement, release, and turn. You basically only turn. Try to keep your shoulders back and work on the other two parts.

Oh perfect, that's a great video. Someone else where I posted that video recommended a drill keeping a glove in my trailing armpit, which I think would achieve a similar effect. I'll try that out next time I go out - thanks!!

You could try the glove thing, but I don't like any drills that create restrictions, especially of the arms. If you do the glove thing, you might end up with the arms too low in the backswing. The idea behind the video I posted is that you have loose and free arms that can work the club and right shoulder downward in the downswing. Basically, if you move your arms on the proper path, the right shoulder will automatically come down instead of out, like you were doin.

I'm not surprised its a problem with driver. We try to hit that club far, and that usually translates into an early shoulder rotation in the downswing that throws the club out.

Went to the range a bit this morning. The hand drop feel was working great with the irons, still needs some time on the driver. The glove drill worked fantastic with the driver, so a combination of the two might finally get me on the right path.

For the kinematic sequence and weight transfer - do you have any drills you can recommend for that? I notice one miss I have (particularly with hybrid - driver) is where I just get completely stuck on my heels. My follow through is super ugly leaning backwards on them, and the shot is a huge pull to the left. I try to focus on making sure my weight is properly set up when I start my swing to combat this, but it's very much a work in progress.

These three vids are good for concepts and drills. I would recommend you work first on getting that release going. Then you can start trying to do the weight transfer. For me, If I try to do weight transfer, I end up sliding, which gets the club stuck.

Are you sure its a pull and not a push draw? If its a pull, you are still starting the downswing with your rotation, which gets the club OTT. If its a push draw, that's we want. Once you start consistently hitting high push draws, we can begin adding in that weight transfer and rotation to straighten the shot out or get to a fade.

Definitely a pull - it starts straight left with barely any curve to it. I've been trying to accentuate the in to out path as hard as I can, but it's so damn hard - I need to get on a trackman or something, because just based off ball flight I've almost never done it. I may be getting the path right and just not aligning the face, though.

I'm curious what your thoughts on the backswing here are. I filmed a few more swings at the range yesterday and on the 2nd and 3rd swings, I thought I was really feeling like my hands were staying close to my right leg as I began the takeaway, and then moving more vertically instead of around my body.

Obviously that doesn't show up at all on the video... it's wild how these swings felt so different and yet appear almost the same. I'm not sure how much I want to chase backswing plane changes though - maybe in the end they aren't the most important thing?

I gave advice on the downswing, but ill say something about the backswing.

It looks like a very flat backswing without much vertical. You tend to have the club too low on the backswing by turning the club behind you with your hands. Try and keep the clubhead in fromt of your chest when u start the backswing and then lift. Monte's no turn backswing might help.

This may be why you find it difficult to release properly in the downswing. With out any vertical movement of the club in the backswing, there is not a lot of space to bring the club downward in the downswing.

At the moment your swing generally looks very low and flat.
