iron set recommendation

Hi I recently got rid of my 921 Hot Metal because I am not happy with Mizuno with their service. My a little over 1 year old clubs, looks so beat up like they were 10 year old. 

 

Now I am looking for a new set of irons. Taking suggestion and recommendation. I was fitted for 921 Forge with modus 3 tour 105 at PGA store in Atlanta. Got it for 2 months return it for the hot metal because it was very expensive to me. Went to fitting with a friend at PXG, ended up doing one myself. They recommend the 0211 iron set with KBS Tour Lite R -Parallel. Never really done a true fitting. Really wondering if I should spend some money to get a real fitting. 

 

I am in Atlanta, any recommendation would be appreciated.

I don't know Atlanta, but try to find somewhere with a selection, but no agenda. Try to find a retailer that carries everything so you can try everything - some of the higher-end public (or semi-private) courses may have a fitting studio as well.

 

If you can hit a PGASS, you can get a "sorta" fitting if you go during a slow time to narrow down brands/styles that you like so your actual fitting will be more focused. I've heard decent things about their tour van fittings as well.

I agree with the above. Go somewhere that sells many brands so they aren't trying to push their main brand on you.

I've had good luck at Golf USA. I'm not sure if you have one of those close by.

Usually, I have in mind what I like, but stay open to a good performing club.

When fit me into different irons,the Srixon Zx5/Zx7 combo set jumped at me .

They are perfect.

Those are the last clubs I would ever expected to work for me.

If you're not sure what works best for you, definitely worth going through a fitting.  If you tinker with clubs on here like many of us do and have a pretty good idea of what you're looking for, the line of Maltby irons from Golfworks is as good as anything you'll find out there for half the price.

In Atlanta, I'd recommend Club Champion for a "proper" fitting, although its going to be an expensive endeavor (they typically don't carry any stock options).  If you are in a pinch, there are a couple good fitters at PGASS in Roswell (Summer & Robert), and they won't push a particular model / brand on you.

 

Honestly though, I'd look DTC even with a fitting, there are a ton of good options out there - Maltby & New Level make great irons and I've heard great things about Takomo.

I didn't do a fitting with club champion, but I don't think True Spec in NYC is any better than PGA SS (paid fitting) in NYC

Don’t do a fitting. Go to a PGATSS or GG ordering watts….and go to the used club section. They have tons of used sets. I means tons. Go and hit them, they don’t care with the used sets. 
 

See what you like and don’t like. Notice the feel of the shafts and heads an do on. 
 

you can try all the irons in the set. Best part is, if you love a set, you can buy the actual set you hit.
