Getting back into golf; new to Golf WRX

I didn't start playing golf until my early-30's, when I got fitted for a set of Ping ISI's, from Driver to SW. I lived at the driving range for a year (1999) while I was in between jobs and then joined the country club where I lived (#4 tee was just outside my back yard) after I went back to work. I couldn't get lower than a 13 despite taking lessons, and playing and practicing a lot. I played regularly for the next four years, then life happened and I became a very occasional golfer.

 

Having retired in April, 2022, I finally ran out of honey do's so I dusted off the stcks and played a round with some neighbors. It was so bad, I decided to either commit to improving or quit forever. I bought an Optishot 2 in September and created a sim/net setup in my shop. I know it's not a real swing analyzer but it was an inexpensive way for me to evaluate face angle, swing path, and face contact. I used it to essentially rebuild my swing. My ball striking isn't great but I'm keeping it on the grooves, enough so that I could tell that the equipment specs for my 33yo self are not the same as my 57yo self. I've shrunk about a 1/2", down to 6'4, and lost a decent amount of strength and flexibility. I replaced my Ping woods several years ago with TM RBZ and still like them a lot, but I can't really muscle the ISI's down the fairway anymore.

 

I got fitted this week and my Mizuno Hot Metal Pro irons should be here sometime next week. They are about a club and a half stronger than my Pings. My shaft lengths are shorter by a 1/2" and got a bit lighter (Z-Z65 vs Modus 105S). I can't wait to hit the course to try them out. Incidentally, the fitting pro was very complimentary of my swing, so I feel all the balls I've hit on the Optishot have been productive. I'm a researcher by nature so I look forward to exploring the forums and learning from more experienced players.

Find a TPI certified professional , and fitness training with a trainer he recommends.  
We all want to get good, but how bad do you want it?

Welcome to golfwrx. One piece of advice from experience, spend as little time on here as possible.

 

If you don't it will definitely dip into your retirement funds !!!!!!

 

I of course just give advice, don't listen to it. I'm constantly on here and of course my wallet is lighter for it.

I think my retirement accounts are safe. Clearly, having used the same irons for nearly 25 years, I don't chase the latest, greatest equipment.

25 years huh. Well I can pretty much say for sure the technology is better now so you may be missing out.
