Tiger's Swing?

I thought that Tigers swing was looking a lot better with the irons but with the driver it still looks a little out of synch with the body getting out ahead of the shot causing the torso to have to slow down its movement and make the head back out of the shot and that the arms move away from the body and a releasing the club with the hands and arms a kind of toeing down of the club through impact.......... you can see this happen especially with the driver when he goes a one it shows itself by him being so far up on his toes at impact as he kind of rescues the shot......... The irons are a lot closer to what I think will be his true impact position as the body rotates out of the shot and the hands are more passive and being released by the turning of the body and you don't see any of the head rise and backing out of the shot he has with the driver.

I do think he will learn to release the driver in this manner and when he does we will see the great man get to a level where he has total control of the golf ball...........

I watched all the Match Play and counted multiple different swing styles that Tiger uses depending on the club and situation. Dan did a perfect job of summarizing the driver swing. His long and mid irons can vary depending on the shot he wants to play, but you see some fabulous "push release" swings even with his long irons.

We all know that he is completely capable of an amazing, simple motion with the irons. But it seems like he has a mental block with the driver whereby he can only execute the one flip release swing. Strangely, this wasn't always the case. As Slicefix pointed out before, round about 2000, Tiger had a very solid release with the driver whereby he hit a hard fade with a solid rotary release (totally different backswing then, however). Seems like if he could just get back to that shot off the tee as his staple, he would be truly unstoppable. Juansky may have the ticket, with the arms and torso connection. It seems like this is the main difference in the "good" swings and the crazy ones we've seen. Then again, what do we know? Maybe he does all this on purpose just cause he "can"...

Cheers,

Tim

It's been mentioned before that he absolutely hates the left pull miss (as I and many others) more than anything else and I think that is the reason he doesn't stay more attached with his driver. His fear of the flatter swing causing more missed left shots is why he got away from that more rotary swing from a couple of years ago.

Tiger's got the same swing he has had since he was a junior player.

From age 20 to 24 his swing gradually changed a bit because he was adding weight and muscle to his body. The change in his physique made his swing a bit shorter and a bit firmer (less languid), but other than that he's got the same swing he's always had.

A couple years ago he suffered some swing rhythm problems when he switched from steel to graphite shafted metal woods, but now he's comfortable swinging the graphite with nice rhythm/tempo.

WELL. During the Accenture Match Play, I thought his swing was the best its been in a while. Even his driver swing looked incredible. I was just wondering what some of you guys (hoganfan, slice, etc) saw different in his swing, and what you think about it!

really? so all that he himself, his instructors and the media have said about going through 2 separate swing changes is baloney? methinks not.

Golf at a high skill level is primarily a mental game.

Practice time get can get lonely so some professional players enjoy the companionship and camaraderie of an instructor or two.

Tiger's instruction during his youth, combined with his methodical practice, created a fundamentally sound address position (and subsequent swing) which has served him through the years as his body grew taller and later filled out.

In his early junior years and on through college he always struck the ball solid but had some challenges with distance control consistency and accuracy. The consistency challenges he faced were due to changes in his physique as he grew form a youngster to an adult. Along the way his excellent natural short game touch, combined with fundamentally sound green side technique, helped him shoot consistently low scores.

In recent years he has benefited from added experience, each year practicing and playing more sophisticated shots based off the sound fundamental foundation he learned as a youngster.

As a growing junior golfer and collegiate player Tiger had a rail thin lanky physique. He stayed skinny through his first couple years as a pro.

Through all those years he played like a typical youth, making full, long swings on most every golf shot.

In more recent years, as his body filled out a bit and he put on some muscle weight, his swing naturally became a little less languid and a little more abbreviated, controlled.

Also, through his professional years he has gained experience, practicing and learning the value of playing 3/4 swing length shots.

what about his large across the line move that was obvious in his amateur wins and his first years on tour, to now going much flatter with the irons, is that just a figment of our imagination, caused by the medias coverage of his changes?

Frozen rope.....you are nuts.

(and unobservant)

I don't know if I would have said it like that, but......

This is a terrible call in regards to it being the same swing. Do you realize how high his arms were in his swing through his amateur career, to his for 4-5 years on tour??? vs. now? A differen't swing is a different swing, not a change in body type.

Frozen ropes, this is not a crack, but thats just bad information.

I already did.

He has already tried (unsuccessfully) to convince everyone in another thread and I told him he was basically nuts there too.

He is.
