Top down/behind player to view pelvic rotation, etc

Recommended Posts

Do you think an overhead cam or behind the player is a good angle to check pelvis rotation or depth, EE,  etc? Or anything else you’d like to check from either overhead view or behind the player…

I see on gears videos they use the top down view a lot for lower body videos so was curious if that angle in 2d is worth checking out.
I have a dtl and face on camera in the garage but was curious and maybe ceiling mount one or getting a extension cable for behind the player.

I think it's a great angle that shows a ton of useful info. You'll be able to see just how much your hips move compared to everything else, whether you're swaying, whether you're moving your hips toward or away from the target line, etc. And although other angles can show you that, I think it really shows how you're aligned and your true paths by essentially eliminating debate about the camera being too left of right or high or low (like with many down-the-line shots). It's just that it usually requires additional equipment (like a ladder) to get the shot/video, so you don't see a lot of material shot from above.

Even if Rear is good for nothing but getting the arms out of the way it’s worth it occasionally.

Yeah I’m mostly curious about hip depth and how they’re moving at a different angle vs the typical dtl view which can be off by camera placement. I might have to get a ceiling mount to try it out…just got to figure out if the angle is right over head or back a little.

Something like this angle would be cool.. dj overhead view

Love that angle - shows you the player body motions from the point of view we have when playing, how you see it (and can feel where your body is) - very different from the 'distortion' we get from a DTL view, for example, and where the lead hip goes from that view and trying to interpret it in our swing

You could also put it so it looks right down your "virtual spine" (in GEARS).

I don't think the overhead will be as useful as the REAR view. I love the overhead in GEARS, but it's to look at stuff like the center of pelvis trace and things like that - things where your torso would get in the way on a simple camera.

I’ll experiment and try both, ordered a ceiling mount and extension usb cable for behind view.

Looking forward to coming up and having a lesson on gears. 🙂

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
