Sub 70 699V2 Utility Feedback (Can't beat the price)

Hey everyone,

I bought a Sub 70 949X 3 hybrid last year and want to add a Sub70 699V2 4 Utility. I already spoke to Cody in customer service and picked out the shaft (RDX Hazardous Smoke 90 GM x-stiff) to match the stiffness of my Sub 70 699 irons (DG X100)

Can you share your experiences with this utility, if you tried or have one? Thanks

I have the original 699 Pro utility in the 19.5* 3i spec. I believe it's with the UST Recoil 680 SC F4 (stiff) graphite shaft. For comparison, my irons are Modus Tour 120 S. The main reason I bought it was that I play slngle-length irons and was looking for something similar in loft to my SL 4h which is 20* but longer (this was 2" longer than the irons) for increased clubhead speed. Basically looking to fill a yardage gap towards the top of the bag that going single-length didn't help.

Honestly, I can't swing it. I think I ran it through an online swingweight calculator and my irons are something like D5, whereas this club was C8 or thereabouts. I am very sensitive to clubs that feel "too light" as it really causes me to get screwy with my tempo.

I'm actually planning to take it into my local shop and have them swap it to the Modus Tour 120S and build it to 40" (it's currently 39.5" and my SL irons are 37.5") with my preferred grip as an experiment. That should swingweight identical to my irons.

I think the clubhead is just fine. But if you're playing DG X100's, trying to go from a 130g shaft in your irons to a 92g shaft in your utility might not go well for you... At least if you're anything like me. Why not just go with the X100?

Thanks for the recommendation, but I want to go graphite in the utility. If it's too light, I can easily go to an x100

If a graphite HB shaft will fit, you can get those up to 105gm. Just a thought.

All I can say is I have the previous model and it is fantastic. This is supposed to be improvement so I wouldn’t hesitate if I was in the market for a new one.
