HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

I'm in a SLUMP and don't know what's going on

Here's the story. About 2 weeks ago I was playing the best golf of my life. I had gotten some swing help and was swinging great. I got my lowest 9-hole score ever, and was extremely happy. Well, a week later, it started to go wrong...dead wrong. I started slicing the ball and my ball striking reduced drastically. Inconsistency sank in for both distance (ball striking) and direction (slice, slice, straight, slice, fade, slice, low hook, slice, etc.) I asked someone to look at my swing and they couldn't find anything wrong. I had an inside to out swing, a nice turn, kept my head down, nice set-up, etc. etc. Neither one of us has any idea why it's gone wrong. After about a week of this, I'm getting really frustrated.

Does anyone know what it could be? Please mention any and all suggestions even if it is the simplest thing. I don't know what I'm doing! It's cost me about 10 strokes a round, not to mention the many lost golf balls. :wub:

You sound clouded... or bloated with swing theory.

 

I think lots of us have been there. Sometimes our heads just get in the way. I had something similar happen in high school and my coach made me go play 6 holes with any three clubs and it literally fixed me that day.

 

Any chance you have your swing on video?

in the past for me, this kind of good to bad golf rollercoaster ride was due to too much tension. let me explain. i'd play some really good golf, and naturally, i'd want to keep things rolling. but in my effort to keep playing well, lots of tension built up in my body, largely due to the fact that i was thinking too much about swing mechanics. i figured that since improved mechanics were responsible for my great play, the more i focused on mechanics the better i'd be. but this all made me tense, so tense that my swing broke down and the ball went everywhere. there wasn't really anything wrong with my swing positions, but i think my tempo wasn't quite right and i'm sure the built up tension messed up with my release of the club. i learned that what i needed to do instead was to just swing the club.

 

so my advice to you is to maybe keep one swing thought with you but largely forget about all of the mechanical stuff you've been working on to improve your play. be conscious about how tense your body is, particularly in your hands, arms and shoulders. try to relax and trust your swing. good luck!

Yes, I think my head is clouded with thoughts. There are many going on as I swing. I play my best golf when I'm not thinking, but swinging like this has me thinging more than ever. Grrrrr.

 

I had never really thought about it building up tension. I do feel really tight and am having to consciously think about releasing the clubface because I am so tight. Huh. Just relax right...seems so easy. LOL.

 

BTW...unfortunately, I don't have it on video for you guys to disect.

you're right. it is easier said than done, especially when there's anything meaningful at stake. plus, being too relaxed can easily lead to a sloppy swing. maybe the better way to describe it is to say that rather on worrying about whether you have all your ducks in row in terms of swing positiong, it'd be more helpful to focus on making a really smooth swing.

 

btw, i found the book "zen golf" to be really helpful in terms of helping me to put my mind in the right place when i need to make a solid golf swing.
