P770/245/923 Forged

I’m ordering a whole new bag and trying to decide on irons. I’ve hit the 923 HMP and hit them real well. But they are a little clunky looking to me. Especially in long irons where they almost look like hybrids. I like lower bounce because it gets hard and dry where I am. (Arkansas)

Ive hit 225s and liked them so I’m sure the 245 would be fine. They have the thickest top line of the three as well which is confidence inspiring to me but all 3 looked great to me. Not too big, not too small, and not too much offset.

How would the three listed above rate in forgiveness? I’m not a fan of the offset in the p790s and I like the look of the 770s but wondering if they won’t be forgiving enough. Mid handicapper but irons are my strong point.

770's are no where near the same level of forgiveness and they are 3 degrees weaker too, so hard to compare with the two other sets. I have NEVER regretted buying Mizunos in 30 years, can't say that about any other brand of iron

I feel like you've just come up with a new ad campaign:

"Mizuno... no regrets."

For what it is worth, I agree on the Mizunos... since 1996 I've had 4 sets of irons: Mizuno T-Zoid Pro, TM 300 series forged, Mizuno MP 60, and the mixed Mizuno MP H5/5 set I have now.  The TMs I had for about 6 years, so out of the last 28 years, 22 have been with 3 sets of Mizuno irons.  I rarely even hit other irons, much less consider replacing my Mizunos until they are getting worn out.

If you like the look of the 245s and especially if they give you confidence to hit a long iron well, I'd say go for it, but make sure you get a chance to at least hit them in a simulator or that you buy them from some place with a return policy, just in case something about them doesn't jive with you.

I have been with mizuno for many years probably at least 15 years. 4 with Taylormade r9 TP irons which were great. Now one my second season with titleist T100 now T150.
I see myself ending back with Mizuno unless the T150 blows my socks off.
Had the 921 Forged for a year and regret selling them. Never had the 923 forged but I am sure they are great.
225/245 to me were just too long and lass loft. They did feel good but I liked the 921 forged better.

P770 got zero time with and never really even gave them a look

If the 770 is less forgiving then I can probably take them off the list. 923 forged is what my gut is telling me but askgolfnut did a comparison between the two and 245 looked more forgiving numbers wise. But with the HMPs my spin numbers were low. The fitter said they were good but I’m not necessarily a fan of this strong loft, low spin stuff.

I’ve got a set of 770’s sitting in my basement. Good clubs but I found them to be too high spin for me. The Mizuno’s (mine are the 225’s but similar enough to the 245’s to compare I think) cut the spin down a good bit compared to the 770’s. And that was after I had bent the 225’s to matching lofts as the 770’s so loft matched the 770’s spin more.

He said in that video that the differences are so small, that a person would not even be able to tell in reality.  He even said that they feel the same and the 245 has the copper underlay.  Very slightly higher launch for him, but the 923 forged will generally spin a little more.  Everything was the same between them, even the distance.  Comes down to look and personal preference.  I think at address the Forged look better throughout the set.  The 923 forged are very forgiving across the club face, I guess just depends if one wants to go down the hollow body iron route.

I have been gaming 923F for about 9 months (and love them) but just ordered a set of 245's with the same shafts to try out this year.

I just prefer the look of the 245 but on course results will be the deciding factor on what stays in the bag.

I have not yet hit the 245.

(Note: ordered 9 iron 1º weak, and PW 2º weak)

I just got fitted in February.  Came in with the Ping i230 in mind, but hit 923F, 245, ZX7, and Callaway Apex Pro.  Oddly i230 was the worst of the bunch, and was quickly eliminated after the first round.  It came down to 923F and 245.  First because Mizuno had a larger selection of no-up charge graphite shafts with Recoil 95 being what I was hitting best.

In a 5 shot playoff between 923F and 245, the numbers were nearly identical, 923F v. 245 as follows:

Carry:  165.4 v 164.1

Ball Speed:  114.6 v 113.6

Launch:  16.5 v 16.6

Spin:  4768 v 4715

Landing 42.2 v 42.1

I went with 923F even they are over half way through its product cycle having been released over a year ago.  The deciding factor was that I was able to turn over the 923F better.  I seemed to be pushing the 245s a little more.  Probably due to the weight distribution, design, and slightly more offset of the 923F.  Can’t go wrong with either.

I would hit T150, it is so good. I currently own 770,223,T150.

I keep hearing that. There’s a YouTube channel I follow as well and they’ve been fitting mid handicappers in to them and getting good numbers. I’d probably still do like T200 5-6 iron but yea t150 I’ll try and hit.
