Top of Bag Setup Considerations

As a short hitter, none of the usual worries about "top of bag" apply to me. Driver as long as I can hit it and stay between the tree lines. Then the next club is the longest I can hit from the fairway without taking a huge chance on a duff, slice, or pull-hook.

 

Generally a 19 or 20-ish degree hybrid goes about as far as anything in that slot. Fairway woods are only 5-10 yards longer and much less consistent for me.

 

I never need a Par 4/5 tee shot club that goes shorter than driver, much less one that's "workable". So basically I can carry as many wedges as I like or just carry less than 14 clubs!

Thought I would revive this. Top of the bag, driver apart, has been a revolving door all year. I have also been hitting it further, 13 clubs used to do the trick fine but the combination of driver, the 3HL and the new AVX ball have added 10-15 yards consistently to those clubs.

 

5i at 23 degrees is my 175-180 yard club, 3HL is 220 yard  The u505 2 iron has been a good find, but it goes 205-210 off the tee, bit less off the deck. I now have the room for a 14th club. Hybrids don't work but the 1/2 inch shorter, 2 degree higher lofted u505 3 iron works fine. Two utilities is just like 2 hybrids ... anyone else?
