Head Weight/Shaft Weight =Swing Weight ?

I'm reshafting one of my iron sets, I'm trying to figure out the best combination of shaft weight to head weight to get close to my desired swing weight

I weighed my shafts & each shaft is a different weight so do I match the lightest shaft with my heaviest club head or do I match my heaviest shaft to my heaviest head ?

I'll be tip trimming these shafts

Thanks for your help 👍

I understand what you're saying, but if my desired SW is D2 would I get more SW with a lighter & longer shaft with a lighter 5 iron head  or a longer heavier shaft with the same 5 iron head ?

I want to get a general idea before I tip trim & cut to length my shafts, I plan on doing a dry assembly & checking them on my swing weight scale before final assembly

I already know what I want my club length to be for these irons

Thanks

How do you know that D2 is the value that will work for you with that shaft and head you plan to use?

Longer always adds SW (same shaft and head)
Higher head wgt always adds SW (same shaft and play length)
Lower shaft weight MIGHT reduce SW return values, but that depends on that shafts actual Balance point vs the shaft we replace and how much weight difference we talk about.

Many shaft models is designed with a BP more against the tip side, to deliver the same balance as the same model with more weight. (example DG 130 grams vs DG 120 grams). By the "old school book" the shaft wgt difference should move SW by 1 point, but since balance point is moved to equalize that, we dont get that drop.

But, this values dont tell us anything, except when we have a tuned up club we like to duplicate specs from to a set with the same heads and shaft

So you DONT need a idea of SW values at all before that club is tuned up at the range in your hands.

IF you know what play length to use, and have settled for a shaft model, build the club thats normally your favorite, tune it up at the range with lead tape to get the head weight right, THEN its time to measure so you can make the SET of clubs. That was the whole idea behind the SW scale, and thats why i does NOT matter that this values is arbitrary, since they are only a "relative value" for use on THIS set.

Look at this chart, with standard - MID size and Jumbo grips. (and different shaft weight)
Pay attention to how many % of the Total weight that comes from the head.
The SW scale might return a lower value due to lower shaft weight, but that dont always mean feel of head weight is reduces, simply because when the shaft becomes lighter, head wgt as % of total wgt goes UP.

Thats why we cant navigate by using SW values and think we by that, get a idea of how strong or weak feedback from head weight will be, we simply cant do it that way.

HOVED is Danish for HEAD

Example, with standard grips, and DG X100, the #6 iron (258 grams std head wgt) will be 60.0% of total
If we change to a 75 grams descending wgt shaft, head wgt becomes 67.9% of total, but thje SW scale will most likely return a way lower value, so if we dont know any better, and use "D2" as target for both builds, how do you think the head wgt as % of total will look like on the club with 75 gram shaft? and do you think feel of head weight will be the same on this clubs, even if SW value is the same?

You probably got the point now, DO NOT have a SW value as target, before the actual club is tuned up, and proven to work for you, THEN measure it, and use that value on that set.

weight sort them, and mark each shaft with actual uncut wgt.

use the lightest shaft for the longest club and vice versa. This will reduce net cut wgt difference from the longest to the shortest when we deal with descending wgt shafts
