TaylorMade Spider GTX face issues.

Hi everybody.

I was wondering if anyone here has had issues with the TaylorMade Spider GTX face denting and damaging?

I bought a brand new GTX (on sale) and as I unwrap the head I notice the face is dented (as per the pic)

I take the putter back to the shop and nearly EVERY putter is dented. I know shop putters get abused by people not caring and kids that haven’t been taught better but this seems a bit overboard.

I ended up swapping mine for a brand new one, played my first round with it and already one of the bars is damaged (more like a cut/scuff than a dent). I am meticulous with my clubs, always have the cover on unless I am using the putter, always clean my clubs etc.

I had a spider EX before this and didn’t have this issue.

I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue or seen this? Wondering if this is a QC issue with the putters and if I should take it back and possibly look for something else (which is a shame cause I really like the look and putted really well with it).

Hi. One round. 6 holes in. A small dent in center where most ball contact is. Was shocked. Clean ball after every shot. No sand, rocks etc. Just putting on greens and I came here after searching Google to see if I'm alone. I had a spider Tour III AND only because it was getting a bit worn after many years of use wanted to replace it.

Can't believe nothing other than normal putting caused my mark. Thought it was golf ball residue but sure enough it was a very small ding in one of the slanted pieces of the insert.

If it's this bad after 6 holes what will a season bring.

Is it made out of tinfoil?

I’ve had a DM from another user who also find that the face is very easily damaged.

He included the EX with that assessment but my EX after close to 3 years of playing still had a pretty good face (attached).

I think there is something up with the GTX putter faces. Would just like more people to chime in before I start looking to send this back and get something else.

Yep I'm following it. Want to know what others say. Really disappointed as I've thought it was a nice design with good look at address but I'm afraid to have something that after one season will look bad.

But more importantly if it's denting in the metal slats near impact that could throw putts off and miss.

Pretty sad. Other companies have better quality than Taylormade it seems hit or miss with them.

I mean they had the paint issues for so long and finally went to an anodised finish. Great move from them.

In terms of looks, this putter is perfect for my eye, the black is a perfect contrast with no reflection, and I prefer the true path on this than the tour (although its similar) as I can instantly see if im offline, and i keep track easily during the stroke. Im also finding the slightly reduced toe hang from the EX (18* from 28*) to work for me.

I will be playing with the putter up to 30 days of the purchase and if it gets even more damage, i will be returning it. The face is the most important part and if it will affect how the ball rolls, it defeats the purpose of a putter, regardless of how good it looks.
