US Kids TS3 or TS5

Looking to transition my son from UL to TS. For those whose kid has tried both, do you think it’s worth paying full price for the new TS5 or getting a used set of TS3 at about half the cost?

 

Specifically wondering about the irons because I plan to explore driver options. Or is the new TS5 driver actually good?

Go with an OEM for driver. I’d buy new but that’s me.

I'm hoping that you get a response to this question because I have the same question. Where are you looking for used TS3 sets? Ebay? Secondswing? I've found it difficult to find a set that matches my criteria: I need a set for 57-60 inch kids, and with graphite shafts. There are plenty of used TS3 sets available, but many of them have steel shafts, and, for some reason, few of them are for 57-60 inches.

Watched my son and daughter test out the TS5 driver, seperately, about seven months apart on a Trackman.  My son was about 7-8 yards longer with his TSi1 in the fall, and they didn't have one quite long enough for my daughter but she tried it out anyways.  She hit her G425 setup 25-30 yards longer, but my guess was half of that was due to shaft.

 

I don't think I would pick the TS5 over any OEM, even for free.

Looking at eBay there is nothing for us at this exact moment but there appears to be a few completed listings that match my criteria each month.

I've noticed some "Tour Series 12" iron sets on Ebay that look pretty good. But I'm confused about what "12" means. "TS5" is the latest model -- it is the 5th generation of the Tour Series. So what is "12"? Surfing through the internet but not finding any answers.

Found a doc from 2011. TS-12 means 12% lighter and these clubs are probably 10+ years old.

I hope this will help. My kid went from TS3 54” to TS5 57” two months ago. He said TS5 hybrids are much better than TS3. The rest (irons and wedges) are about the same.
 

He’s currently using a lightened set of adult clubs (7% lighter). The custom set has no advantage over the TS5’s except for being forged (bent 5.5 flat). If my kid’s arms weren’t so dang long I’d use TS5’s in a heart beat and save thousands. 
 

My kid is an okay ball striker. Twice IMG Jr World top 10. We also own a GC Quad so I have seen numbers from all 3 sets of clubs.

Thanks this is very helpful. If I’m getting the ts5 hybrid I will likely just go with ts5 irons and wedges.
