Miura 1957 Baby Blades Ferrule Question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the hosel diameter for the Miura 1957 Baby blades?  I've read it's. 585 which is larger than most irons on the market and requires a special ferrule size in order to be wide enough to match the hosel. So far I have been unable to find any ferrules online which are wide enough to match that spec. Even Miura customer service says they don't sell any ferrules which will match as they were only produced during the limited time when they made the iron.  Any suggestions or links to where I can find sometthing that will work?  The best I've seen is a company in Singapore which charges $200 for a set of Baby Blade ferrules...not something I want to do.

Thanks everyone.

I only know of Torque golf which I think you’re referencing re $200. You could ask Chip Usher if he has any extras lying around, he is an AD for Miura and could have sold sets of baby blades when they were producing them. He tends to have a lot of random extra cool stuff in his shop so might have extra ferrules. I’d go to usher golf and contact him directly. Peoples golf also used to sell these I think, so you could try emailing Will and see

If you have to spend the money and buy through torque golf, I guess the only saving grace is that you’re helping to preserve an investment given what second hand baby blades sell for nowadays

I really appreciate the info.  Here's the 1957 Baby Blades I found for sale recently at a local golf shop. Extremely privileged as I never thought i would own a set. They are in amazing shape for 10 year old irons and I bought them for an amazing price. Kind of scared to use them to be honest as I don't want to mess them up.

Thanks again!IMG_20240608_124313(1).jpg.1eed17ac554d1220ad0acae5b641a517.jpg

Beautiful clubs! But definitely use them!

Hope the info helps! Both Will (Peoples Golf) and Chip (Usher Golf) are highly revered on this forum, and have made me Miura wedges which I’ve loved. There’s a decent chance they won’t have any ferrules or know where to go for them, but if there’s anyone in the US who can help it would be them.

some folks on the JDM forum may have additional info on this as well or know someone who could scour some shops in Japan for these, but by the time you start doing that you may as well just bite the bullet and buy from torque golf.

Indeed.  I agree it's worth the money to do it right. Thank you again for the info as it helps tremendously.

Cheers!

A set of cheap digital calipers can be had for less than $20 these days.  Measuring is better than guessing.

Paige from Miura customer service told me .580 for the 1957 baby blades. Are you saying .575 because you measured a set?

Thanks.

Billy Bobs golf supply sells .575" ferrules, which will work fine with a .580 hosel.

Yea I just checked those last few out.  The ebay listing is a .580 ferrule but for a .355 taper shaft...I don't think that will work as I need one for a DG X100 .335 shaft. The Billy Bob listing was similar as the shaft size wasnt a match for a .335.  Didn't realize it would be so difficult to find ferrules in this day and age.

Also, BB&F said they don't have any ferrules which will match.

DG .335?  Those are for woods.  Are you sure?

You are correct it's  .355, read it wrong.

Okay.  So you can order ferrules from either Grail Golf or Billy Bobs.  I suspect Grail is cheaper.  I've used their ferrules before, and thought they were good.

I've found two places while looking for a set for my Haig irons:

- BB&F UK, and specifically only the UK site has large diameter ferrules.

- Grail Golf has .580 ferrules in plain black.

Did not find anything else, and will likely 3D print some to get what I want.

Miura unfortunately wasn't much help as they told me to check with BB&F. Then BB&F basically said they could do a special order for that size but the price quoted was really expensive...I didn't check the UK site though. I ended up going witn Grail Golf on ebay and will see how they fit. I will update once those ferrules arrive as they are supposedly the perfect size.  We will see...

I'll leave a link to them just in case anybody else needs... they advertise them as being specifically for the Baby Blades.

Great info and thanks for the link. That's really interesting...I wonder why they didn't refer me to the UK division. I guess they are completely separate so they just didnt know?

These are the ferrules to get for the “1957” BB.  Code: 66TI (0.355" Tapered Iron Ferrules: 0.875” long; 0.57” OD).  I just got some and they fit perfectly.  Miura Global is incorrect—the 1957 hosel OD measures 0.566-0.567”.  Finally, the GolfWorks spec for the OD is wrong—the ferrule OD is actually 0.566-0.567”.  Below is a picture of the GolfWorks ferrule with the 1957 BB.

That's awesome. I ordered the Grail Golf ferrules however if they aren't a perfect fit I am going to order these golfworks ferrules. I really appreciate the photo as this helps tremendously.  I ordered the Dynamic Gold X100 Tour Issue shafts and will do 3i-Pw.  I'm really pumped about it!

Excellent information.  This is why I said to get a caliper!  To measure is to KNOW.
