Shaft weight and swing plane

Was fitted into KBS tour stiff (120g) in my irons a few years ago. At the time I was pretty aggressive in transition which has now improved. 
 

my tendency is to get under the plane sometimes to a dysfunctional level. Constant battle. 
 

question is if lighter shafts can in theory help people stay on or above plane?

There’s really no true on size fits all in golf fitting however lighter may help if it causes you to come ever so slightly over the top in transition.

I guess from a club fitters perspective have you guys seen success with lighter shafts for those who tend to get under plane?

Well there is some chance that it might.  Everyone can respond differently to a change in shaft weight so it's impossible to predict.

 

But only if the lighter weight doesn't mess up the swing in other ways.  Keep in mind shaft weight (total static weight) can play a major role in rhythm, tempo and consistency.

Thanks Stuart. I find it works really well for me as far as 7 iron but I feel like the at the 4-5 iron space they feel heavy and stuck despite being the same weight

Could be a swing weight issue instead of a shaft weight issue?  In which case MOI matching might be better than swing weight matching for you.    Or it could just be the added length is amplifying the effect of some issues with the swing.    Getting "stuck" typically is more an issue of sequencing - usually more than just an issue with the swing plane.
