New irons causing s......s

I am a long time reader of the forum and appreciate everyones (sick) devotion to golf.

I have been playing very well recently and decided to upgrade my irons from the Cobra 3100 i started playing with a few years ago. I recently purchased new Macgregor 685 irons with rifle lite stiff shafts mainly becuase I got a very good deal. One trip to the driving range and one day on the course and I S.....ed more balls than I have in my golfing career total. Hitting my driver and hydrid OK but the new irons are a major problem. The cobra 3100 are off set quite a bit and the mac's have virtually no offset. Is this a potential problem? Could it be the swing weight? Do I just suck and have no business using anything but game improvement aircraft carrier sized clubs?

You need to give yourself some time on the range to get accustomed to your new irons :clapping:. Don't worry about the rounds, the s.....s...forget about it, and go pick up a couple large buckets and find your swing again with the new sticks. Its most likely a mental thing.

completely agree.

although if they hang around........one thing I've noticed from the people that I've seen who were,...you know,...they were swingin' in to out instead of in to down the line to in. getting outside the target line is what brings the hosel into play, IMO.

as someone who has struggled with this particular virus more than once in my life i can tell you the only way i can fix it is to get that full shoulder turn. I tend to lateral the ball when i swing all arms, and dont move my chest back.

its never the clubs its the little space between my ears. good luck, you will be fine in time.

I think anytime you get new clubs, they are going to behave a little differently than what you're used to. After having my old clubs for a very long time, I've upgraded all my clubs in the past year, first the putter, then the driver, then the fw wood, then the hybrids, then wedges, and finally irons. All spaced a couple months apart. I'm really happy with all the changes but it took me several rounds and a handful of range sessions each time, to really figure out the minor changes needed in setup and performance. Unless you are buying a newer model in the exact same line of clubs that you had before, I would think that a few weeks or even a month, for adjustment, is normal. For irons, the particular way they are weighted, might cause them come to back through on the downswing a little different than you are used to. I would try experimenting with setup distance from ball an inch or so either way, and see what this does for you.

agree with the other posters, i just switched this winter for the first time in 8 years. my first couple rounds made me wish i never switched. but i'm getting to know them now, give them some time

Spent some time focussing on attacking from the inside and the contact was much better. More than likely I was outside in. Hopefully just a bad couple of days. Worst part was I was playing with my wife for the first time. She had to be wondering why I wasted so much of my free time playing golf when I could not even hit the friggin ball.

Agree with Shagshow; it happens to me sometimes on the range when I';m just thinking about it, and I actually do it. Damn!

I try to set up for inside out swing path by closing my stance and making sure I don't cast my hands down on the down swing. Also I try to minimise my lower body movement to fix it...

What he said, i have a hell of a time trying to demo irons because i'm a 2* flat player and the majority of stuff i find is 1-2* upright which makes me almost shank it. Even with std lie angles i'm dangerous hitting a lot of heel shots.

Check your lie angles first and then check your ball position after that. Extreme chnages in offset require a COMPLETELY different ball position.
