I took a lesson at Golf Galaxy in Fairfax

Sometimes it's the little things, the results have been awsome.

I wanted to give a public thanks for Mark Jensen at the Golf Galaxy in Fairfax, VA. After testing drivers at demo days outside and in various indoor demo setups I found myself in Golf Galaxy in Fairfax hitting an Adams BTY driver. Of all the drivers I've hit I was hitting this one especailly poorly. The employee assisting me said that my grip was all wrong and tried to help me with it. He really made things much worse. He then suggested giving Mark a try for a lesson.

I figured four 30 minute lessons for $100 using their video system wouldn't hurt a thing. So, I signed up and went.

I've always been "inconsistent sam". I'd draw my short irons (usually when I didn't want to), straight push my driver, snap hook my woods, and forget about that hybrid thing. I'd string together four pars and then four eights.

I worked with Mark for about 40 mintes Mark. We went over my grip which really was all wrong. He marked up my glove and gave me some drills to do while watching tv. He then looked at my posture and got me to straighten my back a little more and raise my chest just a bit. Within 10 swings I was no longer digging the toe of my irons into the ground (a major source of my inconsistency). Meaning, I don't have a ton of the green crapet on the toe. That few minutes was about worth the $100 right there.

Next we look at how I was hitting the ball. I was basically looking at and hitting the ball all through my swing. He got me to not look at the ball so much but really look at the target out of my left ear and swing to the target. It got a little metaphysical there but dang if it doesn't help. He gave me a drill to do. Place a ball on a 1/2" tee about 5 inches in front of where I'd normally setup. This will help me "swing to the target" instead of swing at the ball. If you hit the ball on the tee straight then you are really coming through the hitting area with the club square.

This Saturday I was back to hitting my irons left again. I did the 1/2" ball on tee drill for about 8 swings and straightened everything out. It was awsome.

So after just 40 minutes I'm hitting the ball straighter than I ever have, not digging the toe of the club at all (no need for +4* lie adjustments any more), I've gotten way more height on my irons, and even hit better distances now (I was hitting my PW 145/150; it's now 130/135).

Anyway, not looking for feedback. I just wanted to make this post to say that the Golf Galaxy lessons really worked for me. I felt like a chump walking in there with my clubs for a lesson but it REALLY REALLY worked for me. Lastly, maybe someone contemplating using their services will find this post and give it a try.
