Swing Tempo training Aid

I am looking for a swing tempo training aid, I need to slow my tempo down, especially the transition. I swing the club about as fast as Nick Price. In tournaments I tend to swing faster and faster until I get to the point that Iam corkscrewing myself into the ground.

 

I have tried a number of techniques through the years but I need a tool that will give me instant feedback. I was wondering if the Swingsetter or possibly the speedstick might help.

My wife bought me the Tempo Timer for Christmas. It's part of the Ernie Els Training System. The Tempo Timer can be velcroed onto any club and you can hit balls with it. I believe it's 9 ounces, so it helps slow you down.

 

I have the same issue with getting quick and find that it has helped with the limited time I've used it.

The Swingsetter and Speed Stik are good training aids, but you can't hit balls with them and they are much more bulky. The Tempo Timer fits in the apparel pocket of your bag and takes up very little space.

So what does it actually do? I haven't been able to find any info on how it works. Just a little skeptical, sorry.

It doesn't really "do" anything. You velcro it to any club and hit balls. The added weight helps slow your swing, making it smoother from takeaway through transition at the top and down throught impact. 9 oz. may not sound like a lot, but it makes a huge difference.

 

The thing I like best is that you can actually hit balls with it. So many training aids are designed to supplement hitting the ball. For example, you don't hit balls with either the Leadbetter SwingSetter, SpeedStik, or Momentus. I like training aids where you can see the resulting ball flight. Those training aids would include the Tempo Timer, Path Pro, Swingyde, etc.

I have one that is better than that. It's called the Tempo Ball and can be had off of eBay right now for 99 cents. It costs more to ship the thing then to buy it. Last time I took lessons my instructor had me using this for the first five minutes during warm-up. Anytime I got too fast, he'd toss me this.

You could also take a look at sync a swing. I tried it out last year at the PGA Show. It's a little bit more sophisticated and you can hook it up to your computer to view the data from your swings.
