735 Question (Last One I Promise)

I am still nervous about buying the wrong kind of metal on teh 735s. I love the look of chrome but am scared to take a chunk out of it and then it is crap...(unable to grind down, etc.)

 

But I hear all the great things about the chrome and somewhat crappy things about the stainless.

 

I now play the 981s and am looking for a better player iron with some forgivingness. I am a 6 handicap and just want the best match for me...

 

What is your opinion? Easy right?

I have the stainless myself, and I felt that they have great feel. I havent been playing really at all, since I am in the Army and finishing up a year in Iraq, but I hit them while on R&R and love them, I normally flirt with a single digit handicap, when I can play regularly...

I just picked up my chrome 735's today! I believe that the stainless will

wear much quicker than the chromes. I saw a stainless that hadn't even

been hit yet and there were marks on them. Most have said there is little

if any difference in the feel between the two. The only advantage with buying

the stainless is price.

Don't mean to add to the confusion but at the Titleist demo day everyone, even the reps, seemed to think that the stainless felt softer. Titleist has always had relatively "hard" forgings.

Now I am so very confused.....

 

just came back from Hernia surgery and went out and shot 74 with my 981s...kind of thinking I may stick with what's working.

 

However just imagine I could be in the 60s with new sticks..... :birthday:

I bought SS 735CMs after hitting them side by side with MP32s and the chrome 735s. The salesperson was trying to get me to buy the 32s but SS 735s felt better. Just to make sure, I hit 30 balls with each and then told him I wanted to buy the SS 735s. After some discussion, he admitted that many tour professionals can't tell the difference between cast and forged let alone SS and chrome forged. He told me that they had some custom ordered with 6.0 Project X Rifles and that I could have them for $50 more. I didn't think twice and left the store with them.

While I personally find Titleist forgings (670,680,690, etc) to feel perfectly fine, I don't think there is a huge difference between the forged carbon and forged stainless 735s. The stainless look a little larger to me (very slight, and it may just be an optical illusion), but, like the 704s, I find them to feel nice. (Not as soft as Mizunos, but certainly much softer feeling than DCIs or most other cast clubs).

 

I definitely find the stainless to be less susceptible to wear - my 704s have very little wear, whereas my 735 chromes have a few dings already, and I haven't hit this set yet...
