Nickent Hybrid

Has anyone hit or seen the Nickent hybrids? I am considering the 14 degree, because of current difficulty with my 3 wood. Would the hybrid iron version give me the same or comparable distance as a traditional 14 degree 3 wood? Or, is the hybrid wood version very easy to hit. I am currently hitting a Sonartec 3.5. I use to love my Sonartec, but with the current 460cc size of drivers, it really looks small. My confidence with the club is shot. I'd appreciated any help that you might be able to pass along.

Last May, in an effort to round out my "long game," I went to Nevada Bob's here in SC and custom ordered a Nickent 3DX 17* hybrid, forking out an extra ten bucks for the Aldila 75S hybrid shaft. These hybrids have been extremely popular on the Nationwide Tour, and now are gaining a presence within the "Big Dance" (PGA Tour). I can vouch for the solid feel and control of this club. It is a "go to" club when facing a tight drive on a short par-4, as well as long approaches 205 - 215 yards. It's particularly good into the wind. One small warning: like many hybrids, the 3DX has a slight "draw bias," which I have countered somewhat by adding three one-inch strips of lead tape on the toe side (ala Vijay).

 

Lastly, since you mentioned Sonartec, I can tell you that I also own a Sonartec 4-wood (16*), and find that it is only about 5 - 10 yards longer off the tee than the 3DX, though the shorter shaft and compact head of the 3DX offers more control. I would expect that you would find similar results between a 14* 3-wood and a 14* 3DX, if shaft lengths and flex are pretty close.

 

Overall, I highly recommend the 3DX, both for its quality and its price point. (and I would splurge for the Aldila shaft).
