Driver and shaft recommendation for SS108MPH??

I went to a fitting session today after I got straight drives using my friend's Cobra HS9 x 9* YS6.6 X-Stiff: 280-290 yrds but all straight drives.

 

I tried these 3 heads today

 

1. Cobra Speed Pro D, 9*, Aldila VS Proto by you, Stiff flex 65 grams

Backspin: 36xx rpm

Launch angle: 13*

SS: 105-109mph

carry: 26x -27x yrds

 

2. Cobra L4V X, 9*, Diamana Red, Stiff Flex 62grams

Backspin: 36xx rpm

launch angle: 14*

ss: 105-109mph

carry: 26x - 279 yrds

 

3. Mizuno MP-600, 9.5*, Exsar Stiff, neutral setting (2-5)

Backspin: 36xx rpm

launch angle: 12*

ss: 106-110mph

carry: 27x yrds

 

 

You can see that most readings are really similar, especially spin.

 

I believe the optimum backspin and launch angle for 105-110mph would be 2800rpm and 13* respectively.

 

Can you recommend any driver and shaft that would help cutting the backspin down and give me consistency? I'm happy to lose some yards

to play second shot from the fairway.

I'm considering MP-600 or Cobra with X-flex shaft, but i could be wrong.

 

 

I'm playing Mizuno MP001 10.5 with Tourspirit SR flex 44.75'' with total distance of 280 and sometimes up to 300yrds.

My irons are Mizuno MP-37 with dynamic gold X100 and my 6i distance is approx 185-190yrds (Bangkok, Thailand)

My trajectory with iron is pretty high.

Keng, If you were hitting those with a stock shaft then I think that's what you should attack first. There quite a few low spin shafts on the market such as the Diamana Whiteboard, Blueboard, Matrix F7M2 LTD..ect ect...

 

Also playing an 8.5* might help bring spin down too but launch could be a factor.

Yes those were stock shafts. It's too bad that places with good launch monitor don't do fittings!! they just sell whatever comes from the manufacturer. Most clubfitters here don't own launch monitor and don't carry X-flex shaft in stock.

 

 

I tried R7 425TP 8.5* with proforce V2 X-Stiff 7xgrams couple days ago at the range. The trajectory was too low to my liking, i could hit few good shots but "few" is just not good enough.

I think if I would look into a Callaway FT-5 (dont know if you like that clubhead or not) and something like a Diamana Blue 83 or lightweight maybe an Xcon6 X. I dont know how comfortable you are with heavier shafts or not, launching it at 14 degrees and bringing your spin down 1000 rpms would be great. Might even look into the Whiteboard, I had a guy last week launching his current 905R 9.5/ VS Proto combo at 14 degrees with almost 4000 spin. Got him into an FT-5 Tour 9.5 with Diamana White 83 and we got him at 13.5 launch, 2400 spin and he picked up considerable yardage.

should i go for X or S flex?

like i said, we don't have the luxury here in BKK so i probably have to buy off ebay and hope it fits

there are plenty of shops in Bangkok that reshaft to a high standard.Including several in Thanya Plaza.

 

so you can find a head somewhere maybe Ebay and have any shaft of your choice including X flex.

 

I have a small business down in Pattaya and have access to all sorts of shafts too.

 

 

No need to limit youself to stock shafts !
