Callaway Tour i vs Tour iX

Can anyone tell me which one of these balls flies higher? I know the iX is supposed to have lower driver spin and spin around the greens and with irons. I am just on the search for the perfect golf ball for me and I am almost positive it is not the i after playing it yesterday.

From what I've read, the Tour i is more akin to the ProV1 whereas the iX is more akin to the V1x

You'd think so, yes. The iX would have higher compression and lower spin (so lower flying) since it is more for a higher speed player.

 

Try the Callaway Golf Site. The Tour i was only released this weekend. I've got to pick some up. Now if they would only make it with the Hogan Apex Tour Graphics -- that wold be cool.

I played the Tour i, but I've yet to play the iX. The i was just too high for me. I like the TP Red and the ProV1x for the flight off of the driver. So I'm looking for something similiar.

I played the IX earlier in the year. A little disappointed since I liked the old HX Tours. These were even harder, no feel off chip shots and very clicky on the putter. That said, never been a fan of the 56's. Just seemed to loose a little too much distance wise. With IMHO minimal gains elsewhere.

 

Well fast forward to this week. Picked up a dozen of the Tour I's on Monday and got to play 9 on Tuesday evening. Wow. My only complaint is they are a little clicky not nearly like the IX on the putter.

 

These things were long, with a good trajectory. I was able to hit low or high and got what I wanted. I worked the ball, hitting fades and draws, without a problem. Chipping checked up well, and was able to get the desired distances without too much rollout. These have very similar chipping qualities as the Nike Platinums and ProV1's.

 

It wasn't windy so I can't say how they'll do in the wind. But to me these things spin, and spin a lot. I will have to make sure I play for it, but on 3 greens, before I got used t it, and playing more like I would the IX, I hit roughly 10-15 feet onto greens. With either a full 9 or PW. In those three cases all checked and spun back off the green to the fringe. To me they spun even a little more than the Platinum. I was able to adjust and put as much or as little spin as I wanted as i got used to it, but you will have what you need.

 

Again, distances were great, easily as long as most "tour distance" balls like the HX Hot, HX Tour, One Black, etc... But with great spin, good chipping feel. Little harsh on the putting but with everything else, I can live with these. Not quite as soft as the ProV1's which I like the feel of , but similar feel as the Platinums without the 3-5 yard distance loss.

Thanks - I was hoping for driver length and greenside spin. Just picked up a dozen yesterday. Not a high SS player, so this may be the ball that competes with the 330-S. Ought to be fine in the wind with the HX technology.

I'm not that high a SS player either and like the B330S too so I'd be interested in hearing your impressions.

Wow! Just had a ½ dozen of the ix's show up in the mail. Not sure what contest I entered, but I'll be trying these out soon!
