Proper method for retaining looks?

Does anyone have any methods or suggestions for cleaning polished irons? Any particular cleaning agent? I know that there's going to be scratches and such that obviously are going to be there no matter what, but sometimes I get some marks that just don't want to come off, and in general I'd like to keep the shined up look as much as possible.

Any tips would be appreciated....thanks.

try hot water and toothpaste or baking soda, neither is very rough, try just hot water and dish soap first and use a stiff nylon brish if you don't want to scratch em up.

If they are polished....try mothers paste (found in the automotive cleaning aisle), a little elbow grease, and they come out great.

Jewelers rouge and a buffing wheel will take any scratches out with the proper rouge bar.

The best thing I have found over the years is using a sanding pad I found in the paint

department at a local AutoZone. It is 3M 150 fine grit foam pad. just wipe across the irons and they

will look like chrome. Its very easy and very fast, just tape up the hosels w/ masking tape first!

wouldn't 150 grit be a little rough for polished irons? If you were to go the sandpaper route I'd go with something for a finisher like a 2000/3000 grit. I use that on my clear coats when I paint stuff.

150 grit = WAY too coarse for a polished finish. I have some 800 grit emery cloth and even that leaves a satin finish.
