Can anyone explain this to me?

Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana
I bought the Nike SQ Tour driver with the upgraded 83 Stiff Mitsubish Diamana shaft and it cycled out to 243cpm. My local clubmaker told me that it should play alot tighter than that. Also, I noticed that on my shaft it showed xg4t and all the other Diamanas I looked at online showed xg5t. So I had him pull it and I sold it on Ebay and I put a stiff Acculfex Evolution into my SQ and love it. Anyway to make a long story short I emailed Mitsubishi and asked them about it and this is what they told me. Can anyone explain it to me as I don't really know much about golf shafts.



The “upgrade” shaft (83x) from Nike is a Diamana that is nearly identical to what is being played on the PGA TOUR. There is a slightly longer parallel section (4” total parallel) than there is on the tour version and we are still in process of transitioning to slightly different graphics (‘x5ct’ on the TOUR vs. ‘g4”t’ for some of the OEMs) for the TOUR Diamana with 4” parallel tip for OEMs.



I’m a little confused about the “G4 and G5” aspect of your question, but I hope this answers what you wanted to know. I’m interested to know how you like your driver and your Diamana shaft. Additionally, I’m interested how much you paid for club and for upgrade – if you don’t mind saying.

A shaft is larger at the butt end than it is at the tip. It doesn't taper all the way down though. It tapers down untill the parallel tip section is reached. Those last few inches of the tip stay the same size. So the outer edges of the shaft are parallel and not getting smaller.

 

This section allows a club builder to cut off part of the tip to stiffen up the shaft a little, and still be able to fit the tip in the clubhead.

 

The response from Mitsubishi is saying that the parallel section at the tip is a little longer on the nike upgrade. Other than that it is the same shaft they are using on tour. Since it is slightly different they put x4gt on it instead of x5gt.

 

It is still a real diamana. It is still the same high quality shaft being used on tour. I don't know if a change in the parallel tip section affects performance much.
