They are supposed to launch higher although being stiffer by a little, they may not add distance compared to S300 shafts. Also if you are getting some roll with the S300s and you are including even a little bit of roll with the 6 iron you won't get as much roll with the PXs and that will also add up to less distance over all.

The rule has been in comparable flexes, for people who "get along" with Project X shafts, you'll see a higher launch and perhaps 1/2 club added distance.

It seems this old rule becomes somewhat less reliable with today's new-tech club heads.

maybe u can help me out.

Does Overall stiffness = higher spin? ie better trapping of the ball?

If you carry your 6 iron 195 yards, you should be playing a lot stiffer than an S300. Have you ever been fitted for a shaft flex? I just switched from S300's to PX 6.0. I only carry my 6 iron about 170-175 yards. I was recommended this flex based on a fitting with a launch monitor. I say this because 5.5 are more comparable to S300 shafts.

What I have seen is a slightly higher ball flight, but less spin. Which jives with the sticky thread. Because of the lower spin, I am getting a little additional yardage. I am still getting plenty of spin to stop the ball though. You will also notice a big difference in the weight of the club. I haven't measured the swingweights yet, but the overall club fells much lighter. Much more than I was expecting from the shaft weight differences.

i'd say my "normal" 6 iron carry at this point with the MP-32 is in the 180-185ish range...

but that's a product of being all over the club face... if i strike it dead center of the face it's a good 195... plus some roll if i'm not hitting into a green... depends on what trajectory i hit it with... i really only have 2 though, low and lower... LOL...

i'll have my new R7 TP's with the PX 6.0's tomorrow and i'll be at the range for an extended period of time...

Steve Stricker carries his 6-iron 175 yards, as does Woody Austin.

I'm guessing they play extra-stiff shafts, as should you. :swoon2:

well i've played 2 rounds with the R7 TP's with the PX 6.0, and i've defintiely added 12-15 yards on the clubs... i am hitting it higher, but am struggling making solid contact consistently... i've hit a bunch of fat shots with these things over 2 rounds...

i'm guessing it's just getting used to them... but when i strike it clean, they are higher and longer than the MP-32's... i even hit a 230 yard 5 iron off the tee on one hole... it was slightly downhill, and i played a low trajectory shot for the roll... if i can hit that shot consistently, i should be able to drop my scores on holes that don't need a driver...

its just hard to pick a club right now, cause i'm just not sure of what i'm going to get out of it at this point...

Consider this, the yardage is the yardage.

The important part is consistent gaps in your clubs and the ability to control the ball flight. Might a shaft that doesn't go as far but you can control be the shaft for you???? Does it really matter which club goes 195 yards???? As long as the is a club that goes that distance and is controlable could it be a 4 iron, 5 iron, 6 iron?????

For me it's an easy 5 hybrid.....

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
