TP Red LDP type ball BUT with more bite on chips???

alternative to long, with controlled iron spin, yet have more bite?
I love everything about the Red LDP except the way it checks and rolls out around the greens. When faced with a chip or short pitch under 20 yds it does not have the hit/grab/stop power I would like. Any other similar balls with more bite fit this bill: ??

1. Low driver spin and long ;)
2. Low CONTROLLED iron spin that is predictable
3. Soft feel
4. Durable :yahoo:
5. BUT WITH VELCRO action around the greens! :ok:

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The Callaway TOUR I! for sure..

ProV1X

Don't both of these balls spin much more on full shots as well? I don't want to be spinning the ball back 15 feet with a wedge, and that's why I like the spin control of the red so much.

I've found the tour i to act a LOT like the TP red on full shots, but yet be very spinny around the greens. the pro v1x spins like crazy with everything shorter than a 7 iron though.. the 2006 version was much better

I've switched to the tour i from the tp red, it seems to be perfect.

I've found the B330S to be pretty comparable to the TP Red, just a touch spinnier in all areas, but you're pretty much gonna get that if you want a ball to spin more around the greens - it's not exactly a 2 way street. At work a lot of the guys who have the Tour i say it spins way too much lol - i'd say just buy a sleeve of all the main tour balls and see which one suits your game best

I agree!

I have switched to the Cally Tour i from the Red LDP, it is perfect for me! The Pro V1 is nothing like either of these balls.

Here is my quick review on the Tour i:

After a review of these 3 ( Tour i, Red, and Prov1) yesterday I have to disagree and here is why.

Feel: All three have a solid soft feel with the ProV1 being slightly softer. However the Tour has a very clicky sound and feel on mishits off the toe on irons/wedges/chips.

Distance: Off the driver the Red and Tour i are very similar launch angle and distance. The proV1 is certainly a higher launch, but must maintain a decently low spin because it was equal distance with the other 2 ( No clear winner even tested into the wind). Off the irons the Prov1 spins slightly more and is about 1/4 club shorter (normally just enough spin to be 1 foot short of the pitch mark). I found the Red and Tour i to be lower spin and equal distance off my irons. They were always 1 to 2 feet past their pitch mark on the green as well.

Greenside Spin: Here is teh main area I was looking for improvement with a ball. The Red consistently hits, checks slightly, and rolls out on everything from 5-25 yards. I found the Tour i to react very similar but with slightly more grab and a couple feet less roll out, but on slight mishits it felt hard and clicky. The ProV1 FLAT OUT PERFORMS around the greens! Consistent one hop and stop and great predictability with a consistent soft feel.

Conclusion: I can get Prov1 practice balls for $20 a dozen, and I don't mind paying a little extra for the spin I've been craving around the green. The TP Red LDP will be my ball of choice for extra soft greens that I don't need the extra spin, or for courses where I can roll the ball up.

Nice review. I think you'll find the ProV1 will produce more sidespin compared to the other two off the driver. I play in windy conditions year round and ProV1, although a great ball in general, would tend to get sideways sometimes. Combine that with the price premium and I stopped considering it viable. But nothing feels better around the green and putting than the ProV1.
